I finally got my motherboard yesterday and I've been playing around a bit. Here are the specs:

Asus Striker Extreme
Intel Core2Quad Q6600 G0 stepping on stock cooling
2GB Corsair Twin2X XMS2 DDR2-800
GeForce 7900GT/GTO 512MB
500W Thermaltake TR2-500

I've bumped the FSB to 1,333MHz resulting in 3GHz per core, set the FSB/RAM ratio to 1:1 so the RAM runs at DDR2-667 but I've tightened the timings a lot (4-4-4-12 1T) which actually increased performance over the stock DDR2-800 :D Completely stable, able to complete 32 million digits of PI in SuperPI :)

SuperPI 1 million digits of PI = 19s  I know it might not sound great, but my previous PC took 1m44s

Just wanted to let you guys know: G0 stepping rules! :D

EDIT: Whoops, forgot about my graphics card :o

Way to go man *applaudes ;) Did u run any other benchmarks yet? 3d or pc marks? Feel free to share with us ...

Thats nothing to boast about :p... get that puppy cracking!!!.. i wanna see 3.5 atleast! Cough out a good HSF first though :D

xeo: Thanks xeo :) I'm a bit busy with exams at the moment, I'll only really start properly benchmarking my PC sometime after Thursday :o I'll keep you guys updated, though. I've only got a GeForce 7900GT so the graphics will suffer a bit... :o

MoH: Well, that's why I call it my small overclock :D I really want to buy a better HSF but I need to buy one that'll fit on my motherboard. The Striker Extreme has a lot of heatsinks around the CPU area... I'll see if I can buy a Zalman within the next few months, though.

That's quite an overclock on that E6550!

Well, back at stock settings for now, noticed the load temps were about 85'C per core when running Prime95 for a couple of hours

Truth be told I can't see such a big difference in the games, although UT2004 dropped a few frames... Still 150FPS+ though...

Now the big conundrum: Do I buy myself a better cooler to replace the stock cooling or save money for an 8800GT? :D

Ooh normally i would say difficult choice but maybe wait a little bit for all the new Gfx cards over the next month. But i would prob def go for a new card though! And when you do go for a HS..take some time to look at the thermalright ultima 90. Bad-ass little cooler.
