This is something I don't understand - - both are based on webkit and Google chrome is great on PCs and the Mac; so why is it inconsistent on Android; just doesn't make sense.
Chrome is absolutely horrible on the Mac. Safari, somehow, manages to be orders of magnitude worse. They're both massive resource hogs and degrade the longer they're left open. Safari quite rapidly becomes completely unusable. Chrome takes a bit longer, but also eventually has to be closed and reopened to get it functional again. I've never seen these problems on the Windows version of Chrome even running on much less powerful hardware.

This video here, comparing browsing on a Nexus one with a 3Gs (Nexus one has a faster CPU remember), exactly shows the problem I have with the Android browser: random slowness and jumpiness. Flash makes it worser.

That's just like Chrome on OS X.

TBH that's something I've only ever noticed using Firefox - it's the main reason I rarely touch it - but not Safari which still remains my browser of choice. Are you running many plugins?

Haven't had that experience with Chrome or Safari personally.

In retrospect both of these browsers have delivered a solid experience for
me on the Mac; safari is still my preferred browser though. On windows I do find that chrome is more stable than safari.

Really not sure why you are experiencing something worse on the Mac -- can only agree with Bwana that it most likely has something possibly to do with plugins or maybe older versions, custom mods, ...?

Btw flash is still for me the biggest contributor to browser crashes and unusual behaviour.
