My website opens with all ISP's except vodacom - is it possible?

Hi,

I'm running SharePoint off a dynamic domain and every other isp opens the SharePoint server using the hyperlink to that dynamic domain except when you're using Vodacom (was unable to test mtn).

What could be different from Vodacom than say Telkom (I was also unable to test through IS).

Any idea's suggestions - the error it displays is something about "Connection Interrupted"; but only on Vodacom the rest of the ISP can access the page hosted on SharePoint absolutely fine.

Suspect it's a specific protol issue.

What protocols are you using to provide the service?

@OP if you ping the Dynamic name to it resolve and Vodacom. If it does is it the same as the IP you get from another SP?
 
Not sure if this addresses the above statements, but whether I try to access the site using it's IP Address or the Domain Name the result is the same on the Vodacom network.

I'm not sure what do you imply with protocol, but the site is SharePoint running on Windows Server with IIS;

When I try to ping the domain from the Vodacom network; it resolves the name to the correct IP address, but when I try to load the page - i get the abovementioned error.

Does the server initiated any connections back to the client?
Unlike ADSL, Vodacom blocks incoming connections on the default APN. If you need incoming connections, you will need to apply for the unrestricted APN.

The most obvious answer and not sure why I missed it. :o Somehow assumed it was active but re-reading the OP not so sure.

So first try the unrestricted APN, if not already active. If you're not using it, nothing will connect in.

Reason why I jumped so quickly to the protocol issue is that we've had it with a few of these share programs. They all used to use FTP (or something similar) to download data to their clients and later kept on using the same FTP port for real-time updates.

This resulted in a known socket (FTP) reacting in a very strange way and this makes the firewalls very suspicious and they then break the connection, trying to protect the client from possible attacks. We had to put bypasses in for this until the app developers could adhere to the correct usage of these well-known ports.

You might well ask why this "port-problem" is not seen on other networks and it's a very good question. A distinct lack of these clever firewalls seems to be the most logical answer.

This problem is sometimes seen by others as well. Had a few cases where someone decided to host a game and then arbitrarily pick a port number. 1000 sounds like a nice number, for example.

Of course the firewalls go ape-excrement when the socket chosen does not react in a predictable way and kills it. With the result that the game server won't work on VC, but it does on other networks. :)
 
from your answer it would seem you imply that I'm talking about peer-to-peer communications; this is not what SharePoint is! SharePoint is a Microsoft solution that presents web integration and extranets for microsoft applications and can be viewed/opened using any browser. The platform is Windows Server and the Web Service is IIS. In other words is a web server that listens on port 80 (HTTP).

I'm hosting this server using dynamic DNS over 4mb/s ADSL line (Telkom is my ISP) and all other browsers through Telkom ISP and possible IS too can open the site without any problems; only Vodacom (not testing mtn) customers cannot access this address for some odd reason.

Its http running on port 80 - hope i'm more clear now.

But I'm pretty sure there is a Share Trading program called SharePoint as well.

OK, let's reset.

Is this correct:

- Server is hosted on ADSL?
- Other ADSL users can access it?
- VC users can't?
- You've not tested other mobile operators?

Can you PM me the URL and your location and contact details? I'll get the guys to test. Could possibly be a routing issue between VC and Telkom.

I can access your server (Argus) over 3G, from Cpt.

But it still could be a local routing problem. Can you get someone else in your area to test as well?
 
Just and update; I'm still experiencing the same problem dialling-up through vodacom using my laptop! I've sent a pm to nuyork asking him to test.
