MyADSL Bandwidth Usage

Hi folks

Just a short post to inform you about our current bandwidth usage. Over the past month we have used 56 Gigs, which places us 36 Gigs over our ‘monthly limit’. This extra traffic does cost a significant amount of money, but luckily we are still able to cover these costs with the revenues generated from advertising. As you know we do not use this server for hosting any large files for download which saves us many Gigs per month.

In short: It is great to have so much activity on MyADSL and post away :D

Surely that must be 56.30 GB. Can't believe for one moment that myadsl generates 56 TB's of traffic per month.

Hi rpm

I am not sure who your host is or the technicial and location requirements you need for myadsl but have you checked out these prices https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosting/landing.asp?se=+&ci=178
I have many domains registered with and host about 4 sites with GoDaddy and have never had any problems and their service is excellent.
FYI - GoDaddy is now the largest registrar, having recently overtaken Network Solutions.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for the feedback. It will be much cheaper to host overseas, but we would like to keep the site in SA. It does cost a bag full of money, but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Capped users, speed etc.

WOW, that is one hell of alot!

I'll try not to hit refresh so many times myself RPM.

One day hopefully with everything you are all trying to do here at myadsl we will have cheaper bandwidth and will be able to have hosting services comparable to our friends on the other sides of the ocean...

As a thought, how much revenue do you think is lost each year with people hosting overseas? I know I host all my sites with philex.net and for R120.00 a month, among a whole lot of other things I get 1,000 MEGS OF Hosting, 30 GB Data Transfer, 250 Email Accounts. Of course It does mean as you said RPM, If I'm every capped.. I cant get my email unless I SSH into the servers to get my mail which is a pain
 
What about having a Donate button on your page rpm? I'm sure many people here would contribute to help out with bandwidth costs. If each person gave R20 a month or so it would go a long way.
 
Maybe a good idea to register with the Sa top site thingy, more exposure.

Once again we can see what the negative effects of Telkoms actions.
I also host my stuff overseas (powweb.com) purely due to the costs and am allowed 10gigs traffic per day.
 
i don't think that myadsl can be registered with satopsites. if you read the rules on the site

"2. NO Adult, Hate or Racist sites."

we all hate telkom so can't register. :p

Thanks a bunch for the offer, but there is no need for donations. The best you can do is to visit the site regularly and join in the discussions. Advertising will take care of the costs.

You must be earning quite alot from the ads :D...a testimont to how popular this site is!

Maybe we should get RPM a present! :D

What happens with the excess revenue generated from the ads?
