MyADSL Job Board

Ya, I agree. Seperate section in the forum will do. If it gets too hectic we can think of more formal system...

Cheers

)roi( - methinks that it won't retract at all from the core purpose of this site. I mean - not even the stupid thread that will not die has any affect on the core issues.

RPM,

My opinion is that such an idea is good in principle; but it should never detract from the original intent of this site.

I would rather prefer that this be hosted separate from this site in order to minimise the inadvertent cross-pollination of job related threads with the real broadband and telecommunications issues covered currently.
Affiliation between these two sites could be maintained, through cross advertising, etc.
Maybe even by reserving a small piece of web real estate for recently posted job adverts e.g. similar to “Latest forum topics”.

Hope that helps…
I agree with the droid. The idea is good and noble and all that kind of stuff, but it isn't the reason for the MyADSL site. Host it separately, and have a small banner which shows the latest MyCapitalistWhore offerings on the MB site.

A seperate section at the bottom would do the trick.

I think that whilst the "job section" might attract people/visitors not related to the myadsl website itself BUT that in turn would expose those people/visitors to the evils of telkomopoly, which i dont think is going to be a bad thing. The more educated people become the stronger our cause.

My 5c worth anyway.

Yes soon they may mutate into dangerous hybrid jobs/broadband threads sucking innocent users in ;)

lol!
However a job site is whole different ball game; it's good way to generate revenue as MyADSL already has quite a captive audience...

It might be a good idea what with the forum being predominantly used by IT-professionals, however it could easily become a place for free advertising.

How about you create a freelance topic where those who could find time to do freelance work, just post what exactly their area of expertise is. Then those who are interested could just pm the poster with regard to freelancing.

Hi Droid

The purpose of the job section will certainly not be to raise capital, but rather a service to the MyADSL members. There will therefore be no charges to place adverts etc. MyADSL currently runs on a very low budget, mainly because of a great sponsorship from Afrihost, but also because of the mods & members giving their time freely for this cause. And as I have mentioned in another post, the recurring expenses from adwords etc. is run of the gf’s CC :D

RPM

Quite rightly as it should be, no distraction from the primary goal... :)

Methinks mbs and gooku should go work for teklom. OUCH. Sry.

Why are you scared of new stuff?
What's wrong with grabbing new sources of marketing?
Whats wrong with growing and shifting and re-positioning?
This thing (forum) has the potential to become massive, don't stint it's growth.

Remeber - we can always just turn it off again.
SIDE - I think that using the grilfriend's CC is not good enough, unless she's one of the teklom exec's daughters getting a 1mil a month cheque for being alive. We should really start looking at running at a good profit, more money = bigger and stronger fists.

Or.

Do you really want this site to remain purely about broadband? When it grew from ADSL to BROADBAND, no problems. When GPRS + 3G came on, no problems.

What you can do is limit the jobs to BROADBAND SECTOR COMPANIES ONLY. This includes helpdesk, lawyers, salesmen, technical, directors, but stays within the BROADBAND context.

Opinions?

Excellent and valid points. My main point was that if people came to this "portal" looking for broadband / I.T related jobs then they would also be exposed to
Telkom's abuse . I say the more exposure the better.

I take it that you mean abuse directed AT Telkom. Everybody is exposed to Telkom's abuse :)
