MyADSL Movie Thread

Actually not a bad movie, life and times of a platoon of German soldiers.

For those who enjoy their War Movies:
Windtalkers, --about the code talkers, Navajo Indians and the Marines in the Pacific Theatre
Empire of the Sun,-- oldish, but very good movie about civilians in Japanese camps in China -- Christian Bale (very young) and John Malkovitch
Thin Red Line -- American troops in the Pacific, all star cast. Deals with the personalities quite well.
Gardens of Stone -- About the guys who do honour gaurd duty at Arlington Memorial Cemetry, the place of burial for most American soldiers, set during the Vietnam war.
Navy Seals -- Set in the time of Beirut, Charlie Sheen, Michael Biehn
Who Dares Wins --Lewis Collins (British movie) about the S.A.S. based loosely on the Embassy hostage drama in London
Dogs of War --Mercenary activity in Africa --Tom Berenger, Christopher Walken
The Final Countdown --Sci fi orientated about a Nuclear Aircraft Carrier that gets transported back in time to 1941 just prior to Pearl Harbour --Martin Sheen , Kirk Douglas
Flight of the Intruder --Vietnam war Air warfare --Danny Glover
By Dawns Early Light --About the Nuclear Bombers that were tasked to fly over the USSR during the Cold War --Powers Booth
The Fourth Protocol --Spy thriller about the KGB trying to set of a nuclear device on British soil --Pierce Brosnan

Then we come to the classics:
Kelly's Heroes --Clint Eastwood , Donald Sutherland, Telly Savalas
Zulu --Battle of Rokes Drift, INTRODUCING --Michael Caine
Patton --George C.Scott , about General Patton WW2
A Bridge to Far -- Battle of Arnheim -Full Cast
Battle of Britain -- Some excelent air footage, and every German plane used , was authentic, loaned from the Spanish airforce after WW2.
The Longest Day --Black & White -- but very good story about the build up and the actual D-Day landings, portays both Allied and German side.
The Wild Geese -- Mercenaries in Africa --Richard Burton , Roger Moore
Tora Tora Tora --Attack on Pearl Harbour, shows both sides.
Midway --Battle of Midway, Spot a young Tom Selleck manning a machine gun nest.
The Dirty Dozen --Prisoners form a special unit
Guns of Navarone --Set in the Aegean during WW2 --Gregory Peck, David Niven
Boys From Brazil --Post war movie, about the "bred" children of Nazi Germany --Gregory Peck
Bridge on the River Kwai --Prisoners on the infamous Burma Railroad
The Eagle has Landed --Based loosely on the German plot to kidnap Churchill
The Light Horsemen --WW1 story about an Australian Battalion, who cross the Arabian desert to capture a port held by the Turks.
Gallipoli --WW1 story about that battle --Mel Gibson
Waterloo --About the battle, very good Portrayal of Napoleon, the actors name escapes me now
The Cruel Sea --Black & White (very rare) excellent story of the Battle of the Atlantic, and convoy duty.
M.A.S.H. --Light hearted look at the life of a field hospital in the Korean War.

Another movie left out was "Where Eagles Dare" with Clint Eastwood. Trying to remember the name of a movie made in the Soviet Union about the eastern front. It had epic battle scenes like Kursk with thousands of tanks and planes all choreographed. Made in the 60's those scenes are quite something to see.

any one seen lucky number slevin? thats just moved into my top5 movies of all time

You mean "Where Doubles Dare" with Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton :D

The Russian movie you thinking of may be "Liberation" in Russian, dubbed over into English and called "The Great Battle"
Although it was made up from 4 feature movies, cut down and dubbed.

Cross of Iron by Sam Peckinpah.

Did consider that one , but it was made in 1977, and Alan85 mentioned the movie he was talking about was made in the 60's, and "The Great Battle" done in 1969, with earlier movies, cut up and relased in 1971 as the dubbed movie.

Should have Cross of Iron to the list - I meant no reference to the Russian film.

My mistake :D

saw a cool kickass Korean flick: 'No Mercy For The Rude' - about the adventures of a mute contract killer.
Also watched 'Smokin' Aces' - US Mob flick, with some ridiculous levels of action - kinda fun - worth seeing, if you're into high speed, fairly good quality Mob action film.
'The Lives of Other People' ('Das Leben der Anderen') - German film, not bad, dealing with East German secret police and surveillance on artists, back in the day.. Slow but interesting.
Gave up eventually on another Korean film 'Project Makeover' - bout a woman going back to babysit her schoolgoing self through some boyfriend choices. Way too light to cope with eventually.
Also plodded through a Dutch film 'Night Run' - about a taxidriver trying to better himself. Not much fun.

This is true. Sometimes they get some fairly new and decent stuff but man do they repeat their movie!

Clerks II kinda good movie.

Still have to watch Clerks I sometime.

If you liked the sequel then you should love th original- it really is a classic.

I found a lot of number two somewhat forced, especially the whole donkey thing :p

Still worth checking out though.
