Hi folks

I am glad to announce the MyADSL’s first podcast is now available. You can download or stream this podcast from:

http://mypodcast.co.za

A big thanks to Antowan for all his work to make this podcast a reality. It really is a privilege to have a radio professional doing this podcast for us.

We will really appreciate your feedback. Please let us know what you would like us to add, what we should drop or how we should change the show. These shows can be seen as beta-versions and your feedback will guide our future shows.

Thanks and regards,

RPM

That was excellent.
Are you aiming for every Monday? It must take a lot of work to produce.
I look forward to the next one.

Cheers

Hi Chris

Thanks for the kinds words…very glad that you have enjoyed it.

We are aiming for a weekly podcast, but it was significantly more work than we have anticipated. We will do our best to have the second one ready for next week…

Regards,

RPM

Very nice indeed - all kudo's to all involved. Questions:

1. It would seem that a weekly podcast is envisaged - is somebody going to publish a theme/subject scope that is scheduled for casting by week, i.e. a sort of 'programme/flighting' schedule?

2. What is the policy regarding contributions:
- allowable only in terms of forum goals, or anything goes?
- format - audio submissions only, or is textual OK with mypodcast providing professional voice dubs?

3. Editorial policy - please elaborate regarding languages, length, no-go zones for discussion (if any), etc.

/personal stance - I can't stand the 'sprooi-ing/boing' soundbite marker - became very quickly irritated by it, almost as bad as the Telkrap 'hold' music...

I listened to it on the way home in my car on my iPod. Great!

I've started up a torrent tracker for this file. The torrent itsself is available at http://rodent.za.net/files/myadsl_podcast_1_1aug05.zip.torrent

Please seed. ;)

For those who don't know what bittorrent is, it's a P2P program, for sharing files using "swarm downloading". The longer you leave the file shared, the better it is for everyone. Bittorrent is a way of sharing files whilst sharing bandwidth in a fair manner. A well-known, user-friendly windows client is available for free at http://www.bitcomet.com/

i'm too cool for an ipod but i'll listen to it, if im gonna hear any podcast it may as well be the myadsl one, even though i'm not into... you know this fanboy stuff

Yeah, I have to agree. I fail to see the "pod" bit, in an MP3 file that's published on the .net. People have been doing it for what, years?

Unfortunately "podcast" has become the new way of describing : "we made an mp3 of interesting stuff, and interviewed people, and here's an RSS and HTTP link to it".

But yeah. That's Apple boys for you. I mean. Really... Do the Apple fanboys think that MP3 players didn't exist before iPods? Did internet broadcasting not happen before "podcasts?"

;)

Nice one RPM and Antowan. BTW open the URL in Winamp and you can stream it without having to download it.

Tech note: You might want to change the MIME type on the http download so it does this automatically instead of using application/octet-stream.

Lol agree with you there!

Very informative podcast - look forward to the next one.

Find myself agreeing with mbs though about the sound effects.

No but somebody had to do it right.

Like David Pogue, a columnist with the NY Times, said recently "Streamline it, mainstream it, strip away the geeky options." - Thats what apple did with iTunes. They just made it accessible to the masses. ;)

Or alternatively: "Let marketing loose on it, create craploads of ludicrous hype, and fire the programmers - we don't need them".

Most geeky inventions work because the geeks paid attention to the detail. Then the marketers screw it up, and the geeks get blamed for the marketing failure. Ask Sentech and WBS about that.
