Hi folks

I wish I can bring you are detailed report regarding MyADSL’s hits, but unfortunately the general web logs seem to interfere with the forum and I can therefore only use the news section’s visits and make assumptions from this data. Since we have moved the site in April the amount of hits grew by just over 85%. At that stage MyADSL received in the region on 1.1 million hits per month, which will place it close to 2 million now. This is obviously not completely accurate, but just an indication on MyADSL’s increasing activity (just as well we have moved to international servers!).

I am also glad to inform you that MyADSL’s finances are starting to go into the ‘black’. The expenses from our previous hosting have been covered and the current hosting has been paid for until next year. From now on all funds generated from advertising will be kept in the MyADSL account for future hosting costs and possible initiatives by its members. I think it is a good idea to build up a fund to support initiatives like the war-driving organized by TheRodent (even if it is just a small donation to stop the guys from dehydrating [:D]).

Regards,

RPM

LOL

Dehydrating? I am quite sure that will not happen even if we tried. Wardriving is a social thing. [;)]

I do however think we should organize some kind of conference.

I think merchandising should be explored to raise more funds. There is a file sharing portal discussing P2P related issues that is using this model to raise funds. I think many here are familiar with it.
(Checkout http://www.zeropaid.com ... more specifically http://www.zeropaidclothing.com/).

Basically they sell T-Shirts and MuGz that I think can be ordered online and be delivered. I think most people here would not mind to have a MyADSL T-Shirt.

Hi qDot

I think it is a good idea to have branded merchandise (we need a more professional logo though :-), but we must remember that MyADSL is a non-profit site. While there are various ways to generate funds we must firstly ask whether we need those funds. Advertising brings in enough for hosting and related expenses. More funds will obviously be welcome if we would like to launch certain initiatives, but I would never like to see this site becoming an ecommerce environment. I have received (and continue to receive) numerous commercial offers and possible alliances for commercial gain, but have refused all of them and will continue to do so… It might sound strange in today’s social environment, but it will be great if MyADSL can remain ‘pure’!. After we have generated a certain amount of funds through advertising I am even considering taking them off again…

While I have some ideals for the site I would like to remind you guys that the members will always remain in control of this site. I am simply the guy that has the responsibility to make certain things happen [:D]

I think myadsl T-shirts and/or golf shirts would be cool - it would give us a sense of collective identity [:)]
Y not have the T shirts sold at cost - so basically there's no profit?

Hi Lewstherin

I would love a MyADSL T-shirt myself! I will look into the price of quality T-shirts and the cost of embroidery. Maybe we must have a redesigned logo for it…simply a nicer version of this one. Any ideas? I must again make it clear that this will certainly not be for profit making purposes. I will try to get a sponsor for the embroidery that should bring down the cost substantially… After we have all the prices etc. the members can give their views… any ideas and related comments are welcome.

thanks for the info rpm!

how about mouse pads?

there is a SA company that does mouse pads (and coasters): futureshock/ecottage

there is a lot of "admin" that has to be done though... processing payments, packaging, shipping, ordering, etc. i remeber a (overseas) company that does all this for you; they take the order (credit card), print the shirts/pads/coasters, ships it and send you a %. can't google it now though...

A shirt would b nice [:D]
Or how bout a leopardskin thong with "MyAdsl - Have u got the B*lls?"on the front?
