Hi folks

MyADSL continued its growth during May. It was by far the busiest month yet, with the ICASA hearings most likely playing a role in the increase in traffic. Thank you for your continual support of MyADSL.

Bandwidth: 142 GB :eek:

This growth is obviously great news for broadband consumers. As usual all praise must go to you guys who make this such a great place to visit.

Yup, like R9000-R10000 per month (Telkoms bandwidth prices) to run a community website.

Good to see the site gorwing, good job :)

142Gb/3Gb= 47.33*R200 = R9466 spent by consumers just to visit this site!

Text-only or not this site is clear example of broadband abuse - we are now going to have to shape http and limit characters per post and charge extra per character over this cap.

Haha, this is great. They can no longer call us 'a small minority of vocal users'. We're huge now. How can they ignore us now?

doesn't make sense, how can you move 142gb for the month? For a site your size it doesn't make sense.

May saw some new records for MyADSL as far as the number of people on-line is concerned.

I have been to several other forums and the only other forum that I have noticed so many people on-line at one given time was MadOnion or now known as Futuremark.
Futuremark have upgraded their forum software to vBulletin and according to their current record of on-line users it states, Most users ever online was 296, 05-05-2006 at 01:00 PM.
I doubt they are as popular as they used to be and no stats are visible from past history and their previous forum software, but I do recall over 1000 people on-line at one specific time in previous years.
Futuremark has 126,453 members, but the forum is not nearly getting the same amount of hits it got in the days of 3DMark 2001 and 2003? I could be wrong?

Another feature to consider is the new layout of the front page, thanks to RPM's hard work. :)
The front page being updated on a daily basis.
Really looks great!

I like the way RPM has denoted the Forums as Speak Your Mind on the front page. :D

I wish it was not the case, but if one looks at the traffic stats it is not too difficult to see where the traffic went. If we include all ‘pages’ from our ad server, we serve 8 502 277 pages per month. If we exclude all ad server pages the total drops to 3 550 327 (although the ad server does require some BW that should not be totally ignored, lets say it can be excluded).

If we take the 140 GB, we get 146 800 640 KB worth of ‘pages’ served for May. The simple calculation shows that 146 800 640 / 3550327 = 41.35 KB per page.

Since compression is enabled on the server the average size per page served is lower than that (and things like RSS feeds served, which are very small, also counts as pages), but the MyBroadband server is also responsible for email subscriptions, bots (which do not count towards the pages served) etc. It is therefore a fairly easy calculation to see that the total is not entirely out of line. It is interesting to note that we did an audit on the traffic last year, but the result was simply that this is what we have used.
