Things that help save power:
- Dark themes: more ligth = more power use.
This is only true with OLED screens. On LCD screens it will make no difference on what theme you use - light or dark.
However:
You can still argue that greater contrast on dark themes vs white text allows you to reduce the screen brightness and still be able to read properly. So there is still an argument that Dark themes on LCD screens can be used to help conserve power.

But nevermind, we will use your 6% more use on black, if using dark backgrounds with white text allows you to drop the screen brightness by 20% then you negated the 6% consumption no?
The short answer to this thread is to buy BetterBatteryStats from the Play Store and always have your display as dim as possible. Use the battery stats to check if any app is waking your phone unnecessarily. I also use Greenify to hibernate apps with persistent processes when they're not in use.
The short answer is just to plug your charger in when your phone's battery is flat.
You can plug it into your laptop and charge it with the USB cable, or the wall plug, or car charger - so many ways to charge your phone!
Got myself a car charger when I got my first Android phone, but have only used it once or twice....mind you, I do use the car charger when using Google Navigation for a long period - it chows a battery!
But people micro-managing the battery life to squeeze two more hours out of their phone is just plain silly.
Just plug it into a charger, dammit!
It's not just two hours. It can make a huge difference to your everyday battery life. Having to charge my phone several times a day would be a huge inconvenience. My phone currently has 71% battery life, and it was unplugged around 7am. Granted, I haven't used it much today, but I did receive a few calls and time waste for at least an hour.
A smartphone is just like a notebook, the more the screen stays on and the CPUs must work, the faster the battery drains.
And when your notebook runs out of juice, you just plug the charger in.
Why is it an inconvenience to do that with your phone?
I'm saying I don't want to unnecessarily inconvenience myself. An optimised S3 or S4 should be able to survive a day of moderate usage - why have a phone incapable of that?

My S2 has the 2000 mAh extended battery, and when I leave work at 5pm, it still has 68% battery life left.
I get a few phone calls a day, at least 20 sms messages, few emails and WhatsApp messages.
My phone is now on 45% battery life, using the Vodafone 4.1.2 official ROM.
It all depends on your usage.
