Also don't install games that run in the back ground just realised why my battery is been running down latley

Just use Greenify to neutralise unwanted background apps. You don't have to uninstall them.
 
This is only true with OLED screens. On LCD screens it will make no difference on what theme you use - light or dark.

True that older LCD screens(Like the HTC Desire HD) this make no difference power wise as the back light stays on doesn't matter what color the LCD displays , but OLED is not the only screens where Dark/Black saves power. AMOLED and LED back-lit screens(Like Samsung Galaxy S3/S4 or Nokia Lumia's) this also helps with power saving because instead of simply whitewashing the back of the screen with light they only lit up the area's where color is displayed, also go brighter the lighter the color is that is displayed and this directly consumes more power.

However:
You can still argue that greater contrast on dark themes vs white text allows you to reduce the screen brightness and still be able to read properly. So there is still an argument that Dark themes on LCD screens can be used to help conserve power.

Not quite. Dark themes on an LCD screen can actually use slightly more power, as more energy is required for LCD pixels to block light.

Measuring a 17-inch (43-centimeter) LCD monitor, Schindler found that white required 22.6 watts, while black came in a tad higher at 23.2 watts. With a 20-inch (50.8-centimeter) LCD, black required 6 percent more energy than white.

Did you maybe read the rest of that article? or did you just stop there?

But nevermind, we will use your 6% more use on black, if using dark backgrounds with white text allows you to drop the screen brightness by 20% then you negated the 6% consumption no?

If we are talking about resting states of LCD's, then dark or light images will make no difference. Anyway, the amount of power saved is negligible then. The less you have your screen on - the more you save. It defeats the purpose of the screen then. :)

But as you say, dropping the brightness will make the biggest difference in power consumption on any type of display.
 
The short answer to this thread is to buy BetterBatteryStats from the Play Store and always have your display as dim as possible. Use the battery stats to check if any app is waking your phone unnecessarily. I also use Greenify to hibernate apps with persistent processes when they're not in use.

The short answer is just to plug your charger in when your phone's battery is flat.

You can plug it into your laptop and charge it with the USB cable, or the wall plug, or car charger - so many ways to charge your phone!

But people micro-managing the battery life to squeeze two more hours out of their phone is just plain silly.

It's not just two hours. It can make a huge difference to your everyday battery life. Having to charge my phone several times a day would be a huge inconvenience. My phone currently has 71% battery life, and it was unplugged around 7am. Granted, I haven't used it much today, but I did receive a few calls and time waste for at least an hour.

A smartphone is just like a notebook, the more the screen stays on and the CPUs must work, the faster the battery drains.

And when your notebook runs out of juice, you just plug the charger in.

Why is it an inconvenience to do that with your phone?

I'm saying I don't want to unnecessarily inconvenience myself. An optimised S3 or S4 should be able to survive a day of moderate usage - why have a phone incapable of that?

It all depends on your usage.

My S2 has the 2000 mAh extended battery, and when I leave work at 5pm, it still has 68% battery life left.

I get a few phone calls a day, at least 20 sms messages, few emails and WhatsApp messages.

My phone is now on 45% battery life, using the Vodafone 4.1.2 official ROM.

That sounds like very light usage, so 45% is poor. I can use my phone a lot before it dips below 50%.

I just got my extended battery from Germany! Couldn't find it locally, with light usage I got 96hrs! I must note I have really bad signal at home so my phone is mostly in 2G mode!

I love my S2 though, looks like new cuz the extended battery came with a new backing and I've ordered a new frame for my phone, think I'll skip my upgrade this year S2 does everything I need!! Before this I used to get like max 1 day out of my old battery, but it was swollen and my phone kept going off so it was stuffed!

Your notebook doesn't have to be always on but your phone does and sometimes you are in places where finding a charger is really hard to find

If my S2 is on standby, it hardly uses 2% battery life per hour.
