MyBB Motorcycle Owners Thread (2nd gear)

Don't do this. Please for the love of baby yoda and cute puppies, either get a decent aftermarket seat or leave the seat as is and work on your static balance. A seat can transform a bike. It's your single biggest contact point with the machine. It's almost as important as your pegs. Seblief don't go ruining the bike over a couple of mm.
I plan on getting the bike and first seeing for myself how i feel before i do anything to it beyond crash protection items.I searched for seats and didn't find any, I didn't put that much effort into the search though, but from what i saw some option for 3rd gen are pretty expensive, I'll see how it all goes, could be a non issue in the end who knows.

But why don't you tell us what you really think instead of mincing words?

The CP3s follow Yamaha's general industrial styling - see the MT10 for an even more extreme example. Will own up to being taken aback upon seeing the rectifier hanging out of the back the first time on an MT09, but overall they're actually ahead in terms of styling for my taste.

Have you seen the XSR900GP? The half-faired look isn't all that inspiring, but there was one at Linex Sandton with a belly pan as well, and it was pretty evocative of an old-world racer.

The worst thing about the Euro 5 breadboxes is once you remove them it looks like you've near gutted the bike. Hate having all that space, especially on a naked where the belly pan - if it exists - doesn't go far enough back to compensate. Ducati somehow gets super stylish aftermarket equipment that fits in that gap; I wish I could get something similar for my S1K.
:p

From the pics, I didn't like the GP - gaping panels gaps, strange overlapping bodywork, rivets and the poor proportions of the tail unit. YZRs had large tailpieces fully covering the back wheel and they didn't look like they were put together in a shed.

Then I saw one on the road in Sunninghill and it looked great on the move. The paint is so vivid. The cigarette era of Grand Prix is very, very evocative for me. I'd be quite tempted but would want the bellypan and a full system, gap or no gap. 269K isn't too bad I guess.

If they built something that looked like a single-headlight FZR1000 with a big bang 4, I'd buy it right away. That era of FZR, OW01, TZR, even the later YZF750 was just so pure. They looked like purposeful race bikes on the road.

I think they might have been trying to evoke that single-square headlight look, but they went way too small. A shame. Probably went that way because Suzuki's attempted revival of the chunky rectangular headlights didn't go too well - a shame, really, because the new Katana is one of the better looking bikes on the road.

Wonder if a Street Triple's bug-eyes would be improved by replacing them with a nice chunky square LED unit. Seen some round headlights by Motodemic, but they lose a lot of the flavour, makes it look like a classier SV.

So i went to test ride the XSR900, and wow, the power is incredible, the agility too, and the MT09 is supposed to be even more agile. Basically decided I want it, and just my luck, the Midnight Cyan 2024 model was gone, sold.

And apparently There are none left, pending 2025 stock, in which Midnight Cyan is no longer an option.

Secondhand?

Secondhand?
There's like a handful of MT09 listed country wide, that's new and used, have never seen a 4th Gen second hand.
Linex Yahama Sandton has a SP listed, could already be sold who knows, But I won't use or miss the features of the SP beyond the keyless start.

I'll call them tomorrow, but that 20k more for the SP was my budget to buy crash protection, tank pad, tail tidy etc.

It paints a grim picture of how tiny the market is here. Dealers ordering the bare minimum and when it's gone it's gone.

No love for the blue?

I don't mind the bug eyes too much, at least it is some form of unique identity and fits the attitude of the tank. The aftermarket was much more active in the 90s with styling mods, the twin headlight Powerbronze for the Ducati 900ss comes to mind - now all we see are garish sticker kits, mostly seen on KTMs and S1000RRs.

Do love those Katanas in black. Fitting the tiny fuel tank must have shrunk its popularity too. The GSX1000S appears to be a bit of a bargain and closer to what more people want. Credit to Suzuki overall for making interesting, good value bikes the various GSX1000s, the 8s's, the 800 Stroms and a fresh DRZ make for a decent line of bikes. They just need to start taking a few risks with pricier special editions. Imagine a lightweight rally style 800 Strom done in the aesthetic of the DR BIG and with good suspension - they'd sell out for years.

This is the 3rd Gen I.e 2023 and earlier model, these guys advertise all the models as 2025 because it's being sold in 2025.
The electronics package on the 3rd gen is far ahead of the 4rd gen, and only 20k more, very worth the 20k in my oppinion. I sat on this actual bike at the dealer.

My mistake, and poor form on the part of the dealer.

Aaah that old chestnut.

Crazy you can't simply order one with a deposit. Did that with both my Buell and my Triumph no problem because I wanted a brand new one of the following year model for the same reasons as you and straight out of a crate.

Was there for the "birth" and everything. Only reason to actually buy a brand new bike in my opinion.

Yeah Yamaha is sounding a bit **** at this point. Unless it's just a Jo'burg problem and the dealer themselves, which then again brings me to just buy it in Cape Town.
Bikeshop has been selling off a collection of 90s stuff. In one case, they used the landed date of a very old, grey import NSR250 as its year model. Really poor and very likely to have been intentional.

Just buy it in Cape Town and ride it up?

I'm sure if you reach out they might have the colour you want on back order too.
They have a blue new and a blue 2nd hand with Akra exhaust and 6680km for 200k (20k under new)
Now you've started something. If I go with the 2nd hand model I can use the 20k for the trip.

Yeah, If i wait for the 2025 model, firstly it doesn't come in the colour i wanted, secondly there are no changes that I know of beyond different colours, thirdly VAT, so it will likely be more expensive cause its a 2025 and VAT increases. So not worth waiting as the Blue is what I would have gotten anyway after Midnight Cyan.

The only thing now is potentially finding someone to go look at the bike for me. Either that or buy the new one and eat noodles for a couple months.

FML, the 2nd hand model was sold.
So only the new one left, Looking in shipping costs now, that might be easier

They would do this for you so just ask them.

But seriously where is the adventure in that.

Fly Down on a cheap flight nice and early or stay with family/mates.

Ride out to De Rust or Beaufort West (Wagon Wheel cheap cheap) day 1.

Day 2 Colesberg (Die Klei Pot)

Day 3 home.

Run in mileage all done and do the first service and know all the intricacies of the bike.

I seem to recall it’s around R3500 or so last I heard. But be prepared to get your brand new bike filthy and weathered on the back of an open trailer for days.
