Stockvel? Is this a new concept ? :)

no. it's a very old concept that black people use. it can be useful sometimes but it's a pain to make sure that people pay. they need to be disciplined...

My remark went right past you :)

It is not stockvel.

It is stokvel.

Isnt the whole premiss of this that you personally know and trust each of the members of the group?

Anyhow - imo I dont see rpm ever letting this happen under the auspices of MyBB.

You're an idiot if you give your money to semi-random online strangers to save for you and deserve to get ripped off.

Open a savings account, don't give your money to strangers.. :)

I personally have a 32day account for monthly savings (im a student), yet i know about the realities of saving (busy studying bcom accounting) and realize that as much as it is important to have fun, every cent i save now will help me somehow in the future.

yeah freaksta, because that R20 you save now, which in today's money will buy you X Amount of Breads today, will become X amount of "bread slices" in a few years time.

saving up too much of your money for "one day" is for losers, especially the ones that die in a car accident before they make it to their magical R100 000 or whatever...

Seriously, Niccia is the perfect cautionary tale. She is the perfect example of a person whose circumstances have changed dramatically due to factors out of their control.

Now she is in a bad situation.

If she had put R300-R400 away each month she would have a little nest egg to carry her through the hard times.

You have to have some money squirreled aside for a rainy day.

Sorry Niccia I don't mean to sound callous. I think your plight is a good wakeup call for a lot of people.

Seriously, Niccia is the perfect cautionary tale. She was someone who instead of saving went to the most expensive nightclubs and bought a ridiculously overpriced pedigree cat for her bf and bought an iPhone, expensive coffee machine, etc.

Now she is panhandling online because something unplanned happened. (If she had insured her car instead of living above her means this wouldn't have been an issue but I digress...)

Hello,

If I may, the nightclub was R50 - and at the time I could afford it. the iphone i bought on contract for R185 a month, and the coffee machine I won as a prize. Please, please dont judge me if you dont know me. I have NOT been living above my means, contrary, I have been struggling ever since my commission was taken away. I dont have clothing accounts, just the basic stuff, and because I had to fix my car, and because I no longer get that extra income of my commission(yes, tourism doesnt pay alot!) I now have trouble living. I cant AFFORD to even save R10 atm :( Yes, I got about R3000 extra per month on commissions, and that has been stopped 3 months or so ago, and since then I am in trouble. Its not because I spend my money on luxuries, its because of situations beyond my control!

Please, do not judge me :( This is the last thing i need is someone to kick me when im down :( some of you can really be so mean :( :( :( :( :(

So are you advising people NOT to save?

Then I apologise and will edit my post. I know this is difficult and I was using you as an example of the way things can go wrong.

You kicked her bad man, you need to show some respect and buy the girl some flowers or something to make what you've said right

Thank you BrendanD. Its really tough atm, and Im getting more and more depressed :( and when people judge me for something is not true, it hurts. I feel ashamed and embarrassed to publicly humiliate myself, but I was grasping at helms for help :(

Niccia, did you follow my advice to to find a registered debt counsellor in order to make arrangements with all your creditors?

You will feel a lot better and more in control of your financial situation once you have done that!

Not saving enough wont allow you to buy a car(that you want to die in) or a house etc.. Btw not all my money is in my savings account i do have money in various shares on the JSE. but the fact of the matter is that if you dont start saving when you are young it will be more difficult to build up a lump sum of money in the future :)

I did not intend to kick you when you were down, I just didn't have all the information.
