Hi folks

It's THAT time again!! Here is last season's competition... other than the teams and fixtures, do you propose any changes?

Please submit changes ASAP as I would like to start the competition next week.

Cheers
McD

OLD COMP
===================================================================================

Great prizes will be on offer for the top three entrants. Prizes will be made known closer to the final as you don't want to win "old technology".

This format is a combination of the RWC competition that we ran and a type of Superbru. Many thanks to Fanie Dry for all his patience and skills.

1. Competition Format:

There are two ways to score points:
(i) Each entrant picks 4 teams; 1 from each Conference. These picks will remain fixed throughout the tournament.
(ii) Predict the winner and points margin of every game. These picks must be submitted before midnight of the first game of each round; normally Thursday.

2. The Points System is as follows:

2A. Team Prediction Points System:
(i) Score 7 points for every try scored
(ii) Score 3 points for every conversion and drop goal.
(iii) Score 2 points for every penalty.

2B. Game Prediction Points System:
(i) If you are spot on with winner and margin, you score 35 points.
(ii) If you predicted the winner right, you score 10 points
(iii) If you predicted the winner right, you score (11 - predicted margin difference) up until 0
(iv) If you predicted the winner incorrectly, you score 0.

Example: Result: Lions beat Bulls by 10

(a) faniedry predicts Lions win by 10.
- faniedry scores 35 points for being spot on - see 2B(i)
- Total 35 (Max amount)

(b) MickeyD predicts the Lions win by 7 points.
- MickeyD scores 10 points for predicting the correct winner - See 2B(ii)
- MickeyD scores (11 - 3) = 8 margin points - See 2B(iii)
- Total 18

(c) Ho3n3r predicts the Bulls by 25.
- Ho3n3r scores 0 points - See 2B(iv)
- Total 0 (Min amount)

3. The 2016 Super Rugby Conferences:

SA Conference 1
Stormers
Sunwolves
Cheetahs
Bulls

SA Conference 2
Kings
Sharks
Jaguares
Lions

Australian Conference
Brumbies
Force
Waratahs
Rebels
Reds

New Zealand Conference
Crusaders
Blues
Hurricanes
Highlanders
Chiefs

4. Standard MyBB Competition Rules will apply including the following:
(i) No clones - only one entry per person.
(ii) Picks for the 4 conference teams and the results of the first round of games must be made by midnight on Thursday, 25 February 2016.
(iii) Weekly score predictions to be posted or send via PM to reach me at least 2 hours before the first game starts.
(iv) Entrants must make a minimum of 50 constructive posts in the MyBB/MyGaming Super Rugby threads during the season.
(v) The winner will be the highest ranked entrant after the Super Rugby Final on 6 August 2016 has been decided and is based on:
- (a) Points earned;
- (b) If (a) is tied then: Correct winners predictions;
- (c) If (b) and (c) are tied then: Correct spot on margin predictions.
- (d) If still a tie then a lucky draw will determine the winner of the tied pool of entrants.

5. General:
(i) I will maintain the list of entrants, their choices and the points on a spreadsheet that can be easily audited and I will publish the updated rankings at least weekly.
(ii) Although I will enter I am not allowed to win any of the prizes on offer.
(iii) To maintain the secrecy of your selections, you can PM me your picks. I will publish the 4 conference picks per entrant after the entry closing date.

Format was flawless (serious good job on that brainchild) and fun. Couple rules were flouted and maybe they should be strictly adhered to this time around but that would be my one and only criticism to be honest. Looking forward to it once again.

To add, competition administrators and those appointed to do error checking in my opinion may participate and be eligible to win prizes. It is not like they can predict the results, plus the forum is open house.

+1

Otherwise I'm happy with the structure.

Start thinking of your 4 conference team picks...

2017 comp will probably be posted on Monday.

Africa Conference 1

Stormers
Sunwolves

Africa Conference 2
Jaguares
Kings
Lions
Sharks

Australian Conference
Brumbies
Force
Rebels
Reds
Waratahs

New Zealand Conference
Blues
Chiefs
Crusaders
Highlanders

Australian Conference
Brumbies
Force
Rebels
Reds
Waratahs

I have no idea which team to pick here, my tummy tells me that it is going to be tight between the Brumbies, Waratahs, Reds and Rebels scoring tries. My head say that Larkham knows how to score tries, but then there is the diehard Tahs, resurging Reds and a superstar Rebels roster. Then only to see the Force surprise everyone, it is never easy to call down under.

Oh well, I have my 4 picks, waiting on the competition thread.

I've got a suggestion.

Looking back at last year, one thing that got to me about the competition as that the rules and points calculation/allocation was unique and pretty awesome, but the weekly participation was a bit dull... and too much superbru-like.

What do you guys thing if we included some unique type picks, for e.g.
- Pick the team that will score the most tries, or biggest winning margin
- Pick a player that will score a try, get points if he does
- Top point scorer for the weekend
etc etc etc

This will add a little fantasy element to the competition, without being too much hard work.

You made good suggestions which may turn into a decider between the top 5 participants closing towards the end. It is only that some participants may step into an obvious pick dilemma,

Pick the team that will score the most tries, or biggest winning margin

Players will gamble between the Kings and Sunwolves as the obvious picks going by last year’s results. Not everyone expects a number 1 contender to go down by 33 points.

Pick a player that will score a try, get points if he does

There are players which consistently scores a try, also by position.

Top point scorer for the weekend

This is a battle between the number tens, or wingers on occasion.

There will be participants which will consistently go by the same result, where other participants are more knowledgeable on the wider selection.

I agree that it will add depth to the competition, but this is up to community to make and whether they are comfortable and confident with making additional picks.

I am in for fantasy picks.

Yeh, those were just examples... I think we need to think what the fantasy picks are. They shouldn't be over complicated, and only like 3 of them, no more.

Rugby season already, sigh I guess the joys of cricket have to give way to the depression of SA rugby :( But yeah, happy with the competition format, was very well done last year.

Can't stand Fantasy and I feel it would diminish the comp for me a lot. I do like adding an element like this though
- Pick the team that will score the most tries, or biggest winning margin
- and don't think it would take our unique comp in too much of a fantasy direction.

Nah, too much extra admin. Keep it the way it is.

We MUST wrap this up today.

My proposal:

You must make these 3 picks before the first game's deadline.
1. Which team will score the most tries in the season?
2. Which player will score the most tries this season?
3. Which player will score the most points this season?

Points:
50 points for each correct pick
Bonus 100 points if you get all 3 correct.

I've added this to the new Competition rules

2C: Fantasy Season Points System:
(a) Which team will score the most tries in the season?
(b) Which player will score the most tries in the season?
(c) Which player will score the most points in the season?

(i) Each correct pick earns you 50 points
(ii) If you pick all three correctly, you earn a further 100 points
(iii) Points will be awarded after the final game
