So, if all goes according to plan, I will leave the city of love and bread and no English for the UK, and in particular Newcastle, in about a months time.

As I gather from other threads, there is a healthy MyBB community spread across the UK.
I am hoping to get some tips, like best TV+broadband deals... cheapest way to buy train tickets...

Anyone that care to share?

So in that regard… nothing's changing. :p

I truly hope that show is greatly exaggerating!

From the bits I've seen of the program, it is, but there are some who go quite overboard on a night out.

There are some areas of the town you probably don't want to live in, but it's not a bad city with some really good bits surrounding it.

Have you got as far as looking at areas to consider?

Looking at Gateshead, just south of the river. But will rent a flat for 2 weeks and scout the area before making a long-term commitment, do you know the place? Any suggestions?

Yeah, I know it quite well, I only live about 10 minutes or so from there.

Gateshead is OK, stay away from the lower part of Deckham, Teams and Bensham if possible. The further up the hill you go the better, or across the A1 to Lobley Hill and Whickham.

Cheapest flats will probably be in Bensham though.

Thanks!
A few nice flats around Felling, Heworth and Pelaw... Good parts?
Looking in Newcastle as well, but close to the river. Work is in Sadgefield, about 30 miles away, so will commute by train and bus everyday, so want to be close to metro stop or the main train station, but be far away from the student communities!

Sedgefield? I don't think it's on the railway line.. You should probably be looking along the A167 Durham Road as there are Express buses that run along it before going down to Middlesbrough and Bishop Auckland that would stop in Sedgefield.

Yeah, train goes to Durham and bus from there. Bus from Gateshead takes almost an hour to reach Durham...

Thinking about it, you could go NCL to Darlington by train and then take a local bus over to Sedgefield.

That does look tempting, but a bit expensive for my taste.

Virgin does other packages from 50Mbps for cheaper, but you can get free broadband with a landline if you don't mind being a little slower.

For example

Also look at signing up to Quidco for cash back on a new connection.

For example, BT Broadband via Quidco
