Asked my neigbour to send a few pics of what it's like now. Unfortunately, she seems to be using a stoneage phone.

The lake section close to the bungalow.

The river on the northern side.

The countryside with jackfruit to the left and some durian in the distance (I see the neigbour has some pineapples planted on the less-sloped areas. She knows I'm OK with it if she uses some of the space). Bananas are just growing wild along with some coconuts.

Some longan trees from the previous owner.
Can you grow coffee plants there?

Unbelievable. Beautiful. I guess your neighbor is original Thai ?
Yeah, she is an old Thai woman, but she is amazingly hardworking and friendly. My place is always unlocked and I know that loads of my stuff will be missing when I get back, but I can just walk to her place and take what I need if I want to. Took me a while to get used to that

The South America one also interesting - I know quite a few folks who have gone off to Belize and Panama.

I've heard that Uruguay is a popular destination among South Africans. Seems to be the best of SA, Argentina and Brazil but without the dumpster fire economy of Argentina or the corruption, rape and pillage of SA and Brazil.

Friend of mine randomly moved to Peru in the mid 2000’s. Must be especially tricky if you don’t speak Spanish or Portuguese (Brazil). At least in Argentina you may get lucky and find people who still speak Afrikaans (the version from the 1800’s, though).

You'd need to live in or around Sarmiento, a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, and hope to bump into one of the handful of geriatrics that still speak it. You'd probably have better luck with the Welsh.
