Mybroadband Speed Test Inaccurate

I have a 400Mbps fibre line, which reflects a decent average download rate at speedtest.net of around just under 400Mbps, which is repeatable:

But every time I try Mybroadband's speed test, it never goes beyond 200Mbps download:

This made me think my line was throttled, until I used other speed tests, which all indicated an average of 400Mbps download.

Mybroadband's speed test is NOT accurate. Why us this?
 
Mine works 100 %
Except that my ISP is not " China Mobile".

Ping: 2ms
Download: 548.95Mbps
Upload: 221.7Mbps

I don't get the China Mobile reference?

Cool Ideas shows 400Mbps on every other speed test site other than MyBB... which caps at 200Mbps download, but the correct 400Mbps upload.

This is a MyBB speed test issue.

He means that the MyBB speedtest says his ISP is China Mobile.

It's hosted by Teraco (AS37599) which most ISP's can reach through open peering but if you peer selectively, you reach these IP's via Vox Telecom transit which is the transit provider for Teraco (AS37599). Not so neutral but I don't think this is the issue here.
 
I've had many, many instances while testing on Android/Chrome browser at different sites where the Download shows as zero, on MTN as well as Telkom.
(Different routers also.)

I'd love to know how MyBB gets their speed test result metrics. They seem incredibly far off from your accrual line speed and actual line results. Also the tests seem to be locked to certain thresholds, ie. 100Mbps or 200Mbps upload or download... and why this is?

Speedtest.net and others reflect my actual fibre line speed every time. Mybroadband halves that result constantly.

I wouldn't recommend using MyBB speed test as a performance metric at all. It's highly inaccurate, and will make you think you have an issue with your connection when you actually don't have one.

Try https://fast.com/ and see what you get. Will be interesting.
 
I went to SAIX speed test and tested to all cities in SA listed. A few are better than others. They however all show better than reality on the net, excluding slow sites themselves which is understandable.

SAIX test is generally the least reliable these days (especially for higher speeds), and Seacom. Both don't peer openly, so for the majority of ISPs, they are at least 2 or 3 (sometimes more) AS hops away- so traffic to and from their network is usually carried by a 3rd party... There was a time where most traffic ran through SAIX, and a decent about of local content sat behind their network, but today; exensive peering (NAP recently hit 3 Tbps) and the proliferation of submarine cables and transit providers (some being Tier 1s) means that you're unlikely to need to reach SAIX, or traverse the network in a significant way. Exceptions obviously for rural networks or ISPs who use SAIX/openserve as an upstream. The Openserve/SAIX/Web Reach network is still arguably a very good network with great international reach and upstreams- but there are many equally, if not better networks available for ISPs to choose from locally.

Platform wise, SAIX use a speedtest.net server backend and speedtest.net html client. So you're more likely to get the same, reliable speedtest result from the speedtest.net site. From the site, tests are run against independently owned servers hosted by various networks/ISPs. Most SA networks peer openly and freely at the IXPs (NAPs or J/C/D-INXes), so their speedtest traffic is direct.

Fast.com is also a bit of a gamble especially during evening or weekend peak time as it is served from their appliances hosted at or close to IX's. In ZA it's hosted at Teraco and then peering at nap jhb which is Teraco. For Kenya and France not quite sure where the appliances but in these regions it will also be peak Netflix times.

Hi, thanks for info. Can you tell me where this link fits in, its extremely slow all of it=Is this satalite or what, where does it fit in-?........"fra16s67-in-f10.1e100.net"=This is just one of many similar family.
 
I've also been getting inaccurate results since my speed was bumped to 100Mbps during the Openserve promos. MyBB speedtest wasn't going above 50Mbps, while speedtest.net was hitting 100. Since I'm on the new baseline of 40Mbps, tests are now consistent across platforms.
 
The mybb speed tests are not accurate, it is why Afrihost and MTN are being rated as the best consistently but inaccurately
