Oh My Gosh

I saw an adapter that is a MicroUSB that converts to Lightening for my iphone.

This was on the myistore website.

I sent an email asking if it would work with the I5 with IOS 7.1

I get a reply telling what the adapter is. Then I asked again if it will work and I was told that its available on the site.

Not once was my question answered.

So i decided to call the call-center and ask them. I was told by a very clueless lady that IOS7.1 has nothing to do with the cable and implied i was being stupid.

She then vanished for 5 minutes, leaving me holding and and asked what my query is. So i asked her again - Will this work on my Iphone 5 with IOS 7.1 and she said yes. Then I asked what guarantee do I have and she said it wont work then said that IOS7.1 haws nothing to do with a charging cable.

Very annoyed I spoke to the supervisor who also told me that IOS7.1 has nothing to do with a charging cable

I am so shocked that they are the support staff and semi-retarded.

maybe you guys can comment??

I would tend to agree with that. We've got 4 different types of lightning connector devices here that are running 7.1 and none of them have any issues whatsoever with 7.1. I'm also struggling to find much of anything to indicate on google or apple's community support pages that there is any problem with ios7.1 and lightning adapters.

Apple's product description states "The Lightning to Micro USB Adapter lets you connect an iPhone, iPad, or iPod with Lightning connector to micro USB cables and chargers to sync and charge your device." - ergo the device will work with an iPhone 5.

I would have said and implied the exact same thing as her.

iOS communicates to/through the lightning port in the way that lightning ports work (according to the standards). It doesn't care what is plugged into the lightning port or through how many adapters it goes, as long as those adapters do their job (adapting micro-USB to lightning) the operating system doesn't care.

Ok then if im so stupid, please explain why a cable worked prior to the update of IOS7.1 and now it doesnt???

and why with the first IOS7 a generic cable worked now on IOS7.1 that same very cable doesnt work

Either your cable is damaged - an all too regular occurrence imo but that's been true of apple power cables for a while - or your phone is broken - or the power source is damaged.

Are you attempting to chage from your computer or from the power brick. Have you tried other Apple lightning cables?

Apple killed off most of the generics with ios7 - maybe they got around to killing off the rest with 7.1.

As I've said - I've seen little indication that this is a widespread phenomena.

Because Apple is run by a bunch of douchebags. The only change after iOS 7.1 was with regards to unlicensed cables, not necessarily any 3rd party cables, just unlicensed. Most reputable manufacturers are licensed, but if you buy the cheapest thing you can find it probably won't work. But this is really easy to figure out, considering that you're on an official reseller's site.

@bwana may I inbox you??

@Frikkenator - then if Im about to purchase this adapter for over R230 - you imply it WILL work because its on an resellers site?

Ok

I think what he's trying to say is it will work because Apple designed it to work with all of their lightning connector devices.

ok then MYISTORE technician says, I must find out from the supplier of the MICRO-USB cable if it is compatible with IOS7.1

WTF

Don't try to get support from myistore because they are useless. The genuine Apple cables and convertors will work because they have certified authentication chips. The cheap no-name brand cables/adaptors from the flea markets do not have the proper chips.

The Apple Lightning to Micro USB Adaptor is a genuine Apple product and will work with iOS 7.1.

@Defib, you're correct (iStore staff are clueless) -- Apple specifically targeted the Non-MFI certified cables / accessories during the iOS7.1 update (i.e. disabling most)

What you need to do is to insist that the cable vendor be MFi registered & certified; without this I would recommend you not spend a cent. A simple way to verify if the cable is ok is to check on Apple's US store website (store.apple.com) i.e. If the product is listed on their store you can rest assured it does comply with MFi requirements.

Also have a look here to see if the manufactuer is registered for MFi: https://mfi.apple.com/MFiWeb/faq/nda.html
