I'm planning to setup a mythtv box, but require some assistance with the hardware for the backend & frontend..

I'm new to mythtv, so I don't know much at the moment. I currently use a HD PVR (2P) with a Series 1 Tivo.

So far for the backend pc, I have the following parts,

E7500 (c2d) cpu,
Gigabyte G41 MB,
2GB RAM ( can go higher),
250GB HDD (can go bigger, but plan on using my nas to store files.

For the frontend I have a HP Microserver with a HD5450 GPU.

Now what else would I require and are my specs sufficient ?

  • Tuner (i guess something with Hardware encoding)
  • IR transmitter
  • Remote

Can someone suggest which models tuner I should go for? Where to purchase it (I have accounts with most of the suppliers).

I have checked a few websites and most suggest the Hauppauge PVR 150, but it seems like the PVR series cards are discontinued..

This card is available, its the HVR series:

HAUPPAUGE WinTV-HVR2200, PCI-e 1x PVR/FM, Stereo, Hardware MPEG2 Decoder - no remote, Dual Tuner, Analog/Digital

It doesn't come with a remote so I'll have to get that separately..

Anyone have any experience with the HVR series?

I have a MythTV setup running (well not at the moment, my mobo died :( ), and I bought a el-cheapo KWorld card. It works fine, but I suggest you rather go with a Hauppauge as you suggested as I did initially have a nightmare trying to get it to work properly. I spent many hours fiddling around trying to get the thing to work, so if you have any questions during setup I might have some answers :)

One thing I have not been able to get working in the past however was PVR on XBMC (with xbmc-pvr), I am using and add-on called MythBox which is actually pretty good though. I suppose this is only relevant however if you are using XBMC on your microserver.
