After trying to login, the virginmobile web site spewed out errors:

java.lang.NullPointerException at com.yannitech.security.module.SVLoginModule.login(SVLoginModule.java:155) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at
...
blablabla

Then, I listened to 10 minutes of "thanks for your patience" nonsense when calling the helpdesk, before hanging up.

Shot Virgin! Great service! Competing with Vodacom's non-existent helpdesk too?

The Virgin Mobile website sucks. I've found out more about VM on this site than on their own, since it is invariably down or the javascript doesn't work. I hate websites that try all kinds of fancy flash and javascript features while the designers lack the competence to do it properly.

The virgin vzone thing has been on there webby since day 1.

Its really slack that they havent got that up and running yet.

Zoot, is it just V Zone that you have a problem with? Want to possibly write an article and wondering if the problem is more widespread than just V Zone?

I must admit that from my interaction with virgin help desk, they have always answered my promptly. Although their levels of competance are somewhat quite low. lol. (as i've said before somewhere - it seems like they are the other mobile operators' rejects)

Was that possibly meant to be "//Logon" as in a comment? As I said, trying to implement javascript with insufficient technical ability. ;)

Apologies for only checking back now...

Yes, as Edwe says: incompetence. I have my own online business and write all my own code which is never broken and always 100% functional. The web is no longer in its infancy and building a functional application with authentication, data reading and writing etc isn't rocket science any more. I find it nothing short of pathetic that the practice of deploying faulty sites is common place amongst South African corporates; they have huge budgets to hire the right people, but usually don't.

As for the helpdesk - same story. My first (and only) question to their helpdesk warranted a 1 sentence response, but the agent spent 10 minutes answering what she thought the question was; her grasp of English was abysmal.

I can't wait for a business in these monopoly dominated fields (esp. telecommunications) to arrive on the scene and REALLY rock the boat with competence, both in deployment and service levels. Customers would flock to them in drones.

By the way... the same error persists today. What a pro-active team Virgin has!

The whole of Virgin is just one big problem, nothing seems to work...

I received a response to a snotty email I sent to Virgin regarding this and was assured their webmaster (I'm not sure the term "master" is apt here) would see to it. It has been resolved I see.....

It's a pity senior Branson isn't aware of the lack of service which Virgin Mobile delivers; then again, I'm sure he must be, his only concern being the bottom line - top of the food chain syndrome.
