I apologise if this has been asked, or posted earlier.

But what speed is MyWireless flexi? Also - rae there catches, other tan R2000+ for a modem? It's worth thinking about, but that's not THAT amazingly priced!

At the moment I'm use GPRS on MTN Pre paid and that's R100 for 100MB - with no capital outlay at all. On this getting a real 50kpbs - which is quicker than a 56k modem. Basically an alwasys on connection as well.

MyWireless Flexi

I know there is a seperate section for MyWireless - but it doesn't seem as if anyone ever reads it!

What do you guys know about MyWireless Flexi? In particular, what speeds can one expect? Reliability? Value? It seems cr@p compared to MYN :

It's R200 for 200MB, and R2500 hardware (modem) expense

With the MTN Data Bundle I pay R200 for 200MB as well, with no hardware expense and get 48kbps. If I wanted, I could buy a used EDGE handset for either R1500.00, or even a used 3G handset for R2500 and get 150kpbs and 300kbps respectivly.

What do you think?

Dear Dolby

Sentech is being cagey about mentioning a speed. They say that speed only becomes a major issue when it is poor. I have just done a speed test and got 122kbps and I happen to be on one of the busiest towers (Randburg). It should be between 140kbps to 300kbps.

You can choose between buying a bundled package which is for 24 months and starts off at R299 for 200MB. Data is R1/MB thereafter. Alternatively take a modem fully installed and configured for R2999 (from us) and pay from R199 per month. 500MB is available for R100 more on each option.

Just be wary of assuming you will get speeds as high as you have mentioned on the EDGE and 3G technologies. In many cases, speeds are affected by factors like signal quality, distance from towers and so forth. I have done speed tests on 3G connections and managed anything from 85 to 320kbps. Generally speaking it is in the 150 to 250 range. You might be lucky and stay somewhere with a good signal and "happy" tower, but then again you might not!

The one thing that would seal the decision is "do you wish to get connected everywhere from Sandton to Sedgefield?" If this is the case, MTN has better coverage and will continue to do so for a good few years. However, if you intend to stay in the major metropoles, then MyWireless will give you service in most areas with a higher level of reliability and possibly speed than any other wireless internet access product.

I'd be interested in the Flexi200 (1 calander months notice)

This is, according to the site, R199 for 200MB and R1 per additional 1MB after this. The only downside would be buying the modem outright :/ - and of course the plenty of complaints on here about reliability!

I have a 24db antenna aimed towards Sentech at the moment (and have clear LOS - not that it matters though) - so hopefully I could use that to achieve maximum speeds. I live in Randpark Ridge - which is fairly central as well. It will be used in only my house - I don't care about being portable!

Thanks for your reply though - definatley an option to look at.

You should re-read your own post as if it were someone elses

On the other hand, it is an attractive paperweight :p

I will rather use GPRS/EDGE ... it is much more portable and coverage is far better

I've heard the adverts (and the website) touting Flexi as 3G. Is this false advertising?

What does it matter whether its 3G, 10G or whateverG ?
Do you know what 3G is, how it works, what it can or cannot do for you.
What are its benefits, its uses and its flaws.
In fact does it really matter, as all we want is a reliable as possible connection to the internet :D
