MyWireless in Durban

Well its almost been a week since I received my modem and I still don't have a clue as to what is actually happening. I've been shunted backwards and forwards between various parties and no one seems to know what is going on.

Proasm I do believe that the modem has to be activated on the sentech network somehow as the modem IMIE? number had to be given to support prior to them forwarding a ticket (#1748) through to the IP group (whatever that is).

I was told on Saturday evening that the modem is faulty (something that ghb and I figured out thursday) and that they would send a replacement modem.

I phoned this morning and my ticket still seems to be in limbo.

Lets see what I get told now...

<br />It seems that in their haste to get me connected the modem and my details weren't captured in sentech's 'authentication' database hence my battle to get connected. I've been assured things will be sorted out this morning.

I spoke to the lady that does the capturing of the customer details and she was able to find my details on the system. She gave me my account number so incorrectly captured details wasn't the problem.

There was a problem that noone had with his modem - the wrong bios version? Sounds to me that maybe the modem itself could be screwed or that the bios is wrong...maybe you guys should check out this post:

I dunno if I want to even attempt to flash the modem's bios lewstherin but I do agree that there is a problem with the modem.
I thought it may have been that the modem was not activated for the network but it apparently is. The only other possible senario then is that it is somehow broken.

There is a new tower on top of that building [;)]

wizix - if you like you can bring the modem into our offices and I'll test it for you.

Well I've been having trouble of late as of Sunday 23:00h or around there my signal went dead I'm guessing this is Sunningdale tower since I'm only covered by one tower.. now I have a flashing modem :P I hope they will bring it up to speed soon.

Regards
Cerberus

Yes, SunningDale is running on a limb atm as we seem to have some damaged equipment here and the new equipment should be arriving early this week.

We apologize for any inconveinance caused.

Hey proasm

How many kilometers do the towers reach, man u could put a tower in my garden if u like,or on my roof for people to get coverage in upper umhlanga as there are big developments by the hawiaan forest coming soon.(so i can get :D ). Is there anyone near umhlanga that might have the time to come round to my house with there modem to see whether i have coverage? 0721174738 thanks matt!

Overport will be at least a month.

This 4/5 times to connect sometimes happens to me and others also and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it - most times I connect 1st time.
Eitherway once I'm on I stay on but thats not the point.
Have you tried removing the power form your modem, switch it off and then power it up again.
Also try moving it to another spot, even if your signal drops to 20% or so as that happened to me before I had my antenna. At the best spot (25%) I would battle to connect, but if I moved it to the left a bit (15%) it connected no problem.

Yeah, check site on my sig and "ProAsms Antenna Test" for pics [:)]

The pannel is very big for only 19DB, I sell 18DB thats much smaller, I also have these cool 8DB that are only about 9x9cm. Is 19DB really needed cos that should give u 4/5km. LOS

Panel is approx 400x400 in size.
I also have a grid mesh antenna which is about 600x400 - 28 dB gain and today managed to get 2 - 7/8" to N-Type connectors - now just gotta scrounge for some 7/8" cable [:)]
I also have a yagi (12 dB) and will test that soon.
I have another panel - approx 200x200 but it dont work too well - claims 15 dB
Also a Patch antenna - approx 200 x 60 x 40 with 10 dB gain but it does nothing, and was very dissapointed in that, basically its only good if you want to place your modem in a certain convienient spot and place the patch antenna in best place.

Did some experiments with 1/4 wave ground planes yesterday just using the end of the coax cable and that worked very well [;)]

Which ever gives you about a 50% signal [;)]

A yagi is nice as its not so directional, less wind loading, but usually lacks the gain unless you already start with a fairly good signal, in that case it would be my fisrt choice.
A Panel would be my next choice as its easy to mount and especially if you have a wall behind it there would be very little wind loading on it.
A dish would give the best gain, but would be extremely directional, difficult to line up and carries a big windloading thus would need to be very well secured. This would be my last choice.

In your case where you already starting with a good signal I'd go for a yagi.

Not sure as you already have a good signal and theoretically should not be experiencing connection problems.
As I said, I am looking into this so just hang in there for a while [:)]
