Hi guys

I am currently testing all the wireless services, and I must say that MW looks very steady at this stage. I am testing the 256 package, and the average international speed is generally good. Are you experiencing the same?

Regards,

RPM

Well as I said in a previous post, I am now using MW permanently as well as ADSL and MW really knocks the spots off ADSL for surfing etc.
Also something I'm noticing a lot lately is ADSL often gives me a "This page cannot be displayed" and I switch to MW and everything is there.
This often happens even with my own site http://www.proasm.com
Once MW has its reliability factors up, its gonna be a serious contender provided they dont over price it :)

mywireless is definitely improved.
i'm using 128K package.

wonder if 512K package is more reliable now?

Yip, MW is quite nice at the moment. Upgraded to 256 end of July after experiencing more than a month of unthrottled international speeds on 128. Did some P2P "tests" during August, for evaluation purposes of course ;) , and total b/w consumed up to the 19th was just under 18GB.

Speed tests vary from time to time, but my post here is an indication of my personal experience currently. Whether the guys on the normal "trouble" towers experience the same goodness, I don't know

MyWireless speeds are great, as long as you are not in Cape Town at the moment. Since Sentech's recent "Routine Maintenance" on Wednesday, 17 August 2005, the speeds have been terrible. Received an e-mail from the Sentech Help Desk today saying that it is because of congestion on the line, and their technicians are working on the problem. I take it that there wasn't any congestion before their "Routine Maintenanc" on Wednesday?

Prior to Wednesday I was receiving very good speeds and was very happy with my 256kb connection.

I've never really had a problem with my speeds (even with the old 60 sec throttle :D) and I haven't had any bad experiences with service from NoWire / Sentech.

The strange thing is though, that my signal has decreased over the months. When I first got Sentech I had around 27-29% signal with a 14-15 SNL. These days I get 19-22% with 11 SNL. These were my pings to www.sentech.co.za when I first got it:

Ping statistics for 66.18.65.124:
Packets: Sent = 13, Received = 13, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 54ms, Maximum = 194ms, Average = 107ms
and this is what they look like today:
Code:
Ping statistics for 66.18.65.124:
    Packets: Sent = 13, Received = 13, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 70ms, Maximum = 293ms, Average = 202ms
So my latency has basically doubled, plus I'm getting more packet loss (not shown in these results).
CS:S used to be playable with my 200ms pings to SAIX, but not anymore with my 350-400ms pings and packet loss :(

I don't know...maybe someone erected a building between me and my tower during these past 6 months and reduced my signal. Or maybe it's because it's winter and in summer one gets a better signal  . My modem position has never changed so I'm baffled.

Anyway, I'm still happy with my connection and if the November rumours are true, a 10 gig soft cap for R499 per month is going to look like a real bargain :)

I suppose the speeds are great because they have so few subscribers ... just a thought, use it, don't use it.

I've gnawed off my left arm this week trying to do anything on MyWi128 here in CT, just timed the sentech hompage : 94 seconds to load ....

Up till last week it was 'acceptable' - you got what you paid for. But the past week it's been faster to write down a webrequest on a piece of paper, put it in a bottle and chuck it in the sea and wait for a response, than to wait for sentech to retrieve the information for you.

Some maintenance that was...

I mean, come on, a 2 second ping to their own site?

Pinging www.sentech.co.za [66.18.65.124] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 66.18.65.124: bytes=32 time=941ms TTL=251
Reply from 66.18.65.124: bytes=32 time=1598ms TTL=251
Reply from 66.18.65.124: bytes=32 time=1682ms TTL=251
Reply from 66.18.65.124: bytes=32 time=2018ms TTL=251

Ping statistics for 66.18.65.124:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 941ms, Maximum = 2018ms, Average = 1559ms

Actually this is the most subscribers we've ever had and with Nelspruit and the speeds slowing down with some other wireless ISP's we've had quite an influx of people the last 2 months.
The new Flexi packages also have attracted a lot of people to my surprise I must admit, but then its obvious there are a hell of a lot of people that are quite happy with 200 and 500 meg caps, strange but very true.
No, the secret is bandwidth, lots of it and we currently have 4 times what we had this time last year, and with the NSO just around the corner, there's lots more to come.
Newb5000, signal strengths do reduce in winter but we have also reduced the strengths of the Towers in some places as its been discovered that we dont need half of what we are currently using.
The new modems coming from IPWireless will be 25% the power of the current modems, thus also solving overheating problems in some cases.
3G works the opposite to what other standards use as we all come from an era where power rules, the bigger the better etc, where with 3G its very much the opposite.
In 90% of the cases at the moment, the Tower will instruct the Modem to reduce power and visa versa and also by quite a significant amount.
Your SNL is the most important and as long as you can get above 7 or so, you're pretty well home and dry.

This is an interesting statement. Is that just speculation or do you know something we don't :)

Guys this is very interesting in light of the poll on the MyADSL home page. A look over the IBurst forum reveals quite a bit of unhappiness and yet the poll indicates that many more people think IBurst is better than MyWireless. Are the people posting here all alone in thinking that MyWi is good? Has anyone else on MyWi attempted to vote on one of those polls. For months now every time I try to vote, I get told I have already voted! Is it a general problem or just my computer?

On the Cape Town issue, I have been told that it is to do with bandwidth (although the comments here that speeds dropped off precipitously after "maintenance" was done makes me wonder!) But I understand that more bandwidth is to be allocated in the next week or so. I hope for all the Cape Town clients this is true.

I'm really enjoying my 256kbit connection lately. No complaints here.

@ Connection : The inability for some of us to vote in the polls has been raised before. IIRC the problem is, in Sentech's case, that the proxy IP is picked up/registered, thus blocking other MW users to vote. I have no problem voting from work though. Might even be able to register multiple votes from other workstations, who knows ?

Personally I'd like most polls to be members only. If the registration scare a few ppl away, so be it. At least you'll have an idea of how the *MyADSL community* feels about an issue.

Hi,

Jumping on the "me too" bandwagon here, but my MW128 is performing decently too, with speeds avg 12-14KB/s

I'm still thinking of moving over to ADSL 192 when my contract is up end of Feb, but I'm not sure what happens to my monthly rate if the modem is supposed to be paid up after two years. Does anybody know?

Haha. We are currently getting 2KB/s, we need to get 32KB/s on the 256kb package. So they need to get 16 times the amount of bandwidth they currently have. This because of "routine maintenance". I say bull.

My uploads speeds are normal, so i wonder if it's a bandwidth issue. it's just downloads that crawl like a depressed slug.

on the poll issue, since a few weeks i've been able to vote without problems even when using MyWi...

Well I hope I know a bit more than you else I'll be looking for another job :)
Seriously though, whether its speculation or not, you can decide.
Please dont quote me here.
Basically when everything began around October 2003, the SNO was supposed to be in business already and ready for us with IS as backup.
But as you all know the SNO never materialized and suddenly we had no bandwidth and had to use the IS backup which you also know turned out to be a disaster as they could not possibly be expected to suddenly and magically accomodate us in full.
At the time the Monopoly would not sell us bandwidth wholesale, but after a few visits to the house of justice, we managed the current situation.
Now once the SNO gets going, whats gonna happen to all that lovely stuff they have already setup ;)
