Hi guys

In order to do some objective testing and analysis of the MyWireless services in comparison with ADSL we need a few people with one of the MyWireless service packages (128, 256 & 512). The volunteers will simply have to do a few tests during certain times and email the results to me. It will be great if you guys can assist in this project. I think it will definitely be of value to our members and visitors to MyADSL.

If you see your way clear to assist in this testing please send me an email with your location and package type. I will appreciate any help.

Regards,

RPM

Hi folks

We need a few more people with MyWireless packages. Anybody else with the 256 and 512 packages out there? The test will be fast and easy…

ProAsm, how is that possible? You're getting over 90kb/s on a 512kbps line. That means the line would have to be burstable, which we've been told it isn't. -confused- [xx(]

Downloaded from this site the other day:

http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/3.3.7-vncform.cgi

With ADSL and got 90Kb.[8D]

Just tried it again know and still the same.

chopsky:

it is burstable to 512k (on the 512k package). You'd only be limited to 90kb/sec if *everybody* is using their modem to download stuff at the same time.

/me slaps deckert

FORGET THE DAMN WORD BURSTABLE

IT IS NOT BURSTABLE, YOU GET LIMITED TO THE TYPE OF PACKAGE YOU HAVE

sheesh

thick + skull anyone??

Plus, there needs to be about 2000 users on a single tower for your download speed to drop about 50%, and a single tower can handle about 2400 users....

eish, burstable was thought up BEFORE they even thought about the packages etc.... eish

Hi all
For those who are interested I have done some heavy download testing with the 256k package using 3 machines networked together.
Total time connected (no breaks) : 25 hours [:p]
Total bytes received: + 1.2 Gb [:D]
Repeat : NO BREAKS IN CONNECTION [:)]
Basestation : 102 (Sunningdale, Durban) [;)]

Does anyone know how to check to see which basestation is currently being d/l from, other than at logon time ?

Happy Surfing all !!! [^]

Correct me if I'm wrong ppl, but 1.2G over 25 hours isn't that fast if u were constantly downloading (i get an avg. speed of + 13kbytes/sec).
On 256K pkg you should get around 30kbytes/sec, thus:
(30k * 3600s (1 hr in secs) * 25)/1000 = 2700MB [;)]
Super, I assume you spent a fair bit of time just browsing and not dl'ing?

What is encouraging is that you had no breaks in 25 hrs - some ppl have been complaining of hourly connection drops [8D]

** How can Telkom claim to "Touch Tomorrow" when it can barely touch yesterday?
Because they're a BIG, GREEDY, MONOPOLY intent on keeping South Africa in the stone age.
Telkom how about you touch this ..|. **

I normally connect between 3-6 days constantly, but then the little voices start commanding my fingers and I figure I need some sleep or they'll take..oovee.r.....noooo!!

Between one thing and another, I've yet to be connected for 24 hours straight... but then the tower that I'm on seems to be having a lot of work being done on it for the beta test, so, so be it :)

I have 512kb Telkom ADSL and also have 256kb My Wireless.
What can I do to help?

Super, I live right down the road from there. Would you know what speeds I would get if i were to take a 256 pckg? And also, would it be good for Counter-Strike?
