Alright, seeing as how there really is no fun in being a MyWireless user, I suggest we perhaps do something that is actually fun, and also something that can help us in determining what exactly is going on.

We all have cars? (well prolly almost all) - Check.
We all have notebooks? (if you don't you can't come [:)]) - Check.
We all have MyDraadloos - Check.
We all have 128/256/512 packages? - Check.
We're all allowed to drink beer? (well most) - Check.
We have GPS coords for most of the towers? - Check.

Right, now that we have the basics. I reckon we should organize a Saturday, or Sunday "Wardriving" session, in the Gauteng/JHB area, and go <b>go test some towers</b>.

Meaning, we pick some towers, and go test the speeds at each one, with a few different notebooks, and a few different bandwidth packages. All from the exact same spot, and we test all the different tower sectors too. And we all run the same test.

Inbetween all this, we can reminisce about how we're being screwed by Sentech, drink some beers, and gather some exact data of the various towers. This is of course, something that Sentech's technicians that are "working around the clock to resolve the issue" are doing on a daily basis (right), but I for one would like to establish some patterns, flag the bad towers/sectors, and just generally get a feel for what is going on.

This way, we can EASILY debunk any further statements by Sentech that it's only affecting 1-5% of their userbase. Plus, I wouldn't mind seeing some of the more remote parts of JHB, that I never get around to, and have a few beers.

Anyone game?

Sounds like a good laugh....... could be fun going around and "loadtesting the towers"

LMAO.......just think drinking beers is a better option..... our luck they will have a

"MICROWAVE LINK FAILURE" (have they never heard of redundency??????)

Lets do it could be fun

I'm game for this,
But on the drinking beers part ... and driving :) hehe, That means I cannot get totally pissed.

But yeah, I'm game for this.

I am game for this, have two account and two modems plus soime bigs ups we can use to recharge the modems ! and lots of beer ! might need to bring a driver with lol cause I cannot drive after 4 beers per site @ 10 sites = 40 beers.

Keep Surfing

LMAO @ DEAN........ we should organise a bus.......call it the S@NTECH SUCKS BUS......

Would create some attention....... and then DEAN doesn't need to drive..... make it 8 beers a site bud ...... lets see how many sites you get to test!!!!!

Just a thought.....not sure we need modems or laptops..... they might interfere with the DRINKING

and hell who thinks they gonna get bandwidth!!!!

Metrobus has moved its private bus hire facility to the Fordsburg Depot. Phone 832-3135

Metrobus private hire rental fees are as follows:

For a single decker bus, hired to travel for less than 50 km:

* Old bus R400
* New bus R1300.

For a double-decker bus, hired to travel less than 50 km:

* Old bus R600
* New bus R1 500.

Finished my 750g Ricoffy, cut a hole in it, stuck it to the modem; 3 lights and 42% BER! [:P]

Hmm, doubt that the bus will cover less than 50km to se all towers

But those prices make it rather worth while, if you add a hifi ... a stripper ... ;)

Anyone have a GPS and can put in the co-ordinates of all the towers and roughly calculate the diatance (or accurately calculate the KM's--- all the BMW drivers with the function take the hint)

Think that those costs dont look to bad......seeing that sliktrik has R2000.... to blow on an antenna and between all of us we can get him the ideal solution for probably umm R500.... so that leaves us with ummmmm....

Bus.........R600....(get a topless BUS (so that we dont have interference---ORC line)
Bus xtra milage.....budget probably... well lets double that .... another R600
Antenna for slik....R500....

Left with R300 for beers...... and thats only from SLIK's starting contribution

Are we doing it?????

As soon as my Dell arrives you can count me in....

Help save the bandwidth. Decent download speeds for TheRodent! Stop downloading now!!!

Hell yeah, this sounds like a lot of fun, I'm in, while we at it, if anyones got contacts with INTEL, lets contact them, and see if we can make an arrangement, to use their Centrino Roadshow BUS, that way, we have a setup with enough power to run our laptops too. (Maybe they'll be keen, since Sentech have screwed their sales of Hyperthreading CPU's)

Ummm - I'd love to be in on this - should be hilarious. Just one thing - is it ok if I bring my 3.2GB *Hyperthreaded* laptop (that so far, after many hours of surfing the net on a 128 package with a USB modem - has yet to hang or give any sort of trouble) ?

Sorry Dorris - hope that doesn't rule out the Centrino Roadshow bus - while my laptop packs a fair procecssing punch - it's killer on a battery :)

Cool, didn't know Metrobus did that kinda thing, though it sounds kind of expensive, considering it's R80/h after 5 hrs, and R9/km over 50.

Tempest car hire, will do a VW, or Kia-some-minibus-type thing for R864, and Avis R950, and the others refuse to quote online for that class of vehicle. I'll cover half the rental if we get enough people to fill a combi, otherwise we can just go 3 per car, in two vehicles?

So far, we have 6, maybe 7 interested people. I doubt we'll need more than say 10 testers in any case, and if there are we can stick em in a car, or if numbers require, hire a second combi.

Next question, is the date. This weekend, next weekend? Saturday, Sunday? I can probably organize a small gennie to zap the notebooks and the modems during the stops, alternatively we can make use of Dean's UPS offer.

Obviously we won't be able to test all the towers. JHB has 20 at last count.
Suggested route? Off the top of my head, Killarney, Rosebank, HydePark, Fourways, Woodmead, Marlboro, Randburg Metro, (this is where I get kinda fuzzy), Sucktech Radiokop, Mintek ...[insert more slow towers here, ad-nauseum], doubling back to Brixton 126 (my favorite dark lord tower of middle-earth), ending back up at Rosebank.

This way, we can rock up at Rosebank, and do the tour covering prolly most of the northern, and western towers, which is the bulk, I believe, and get back in time for some more quality drinking at the finest pub in town, the Moosehead, where I can show you the seat where Marcel Raath sat, so that you can deface it if you're so inclined.

Any alternate route suggestions? Anyone have a GPS?

Not SURE if INTEL would have the BALLS.......

This is for OUR stats and I dont think that they would support an "ADVENTURE" that is to gather information regarding the **** service we are getting....

Would love to see them support it but guys i have a feeling we must "*** & BETAAL"

On second thoughts though lets see if they support the END USER (who use all the damn chips) and most IMPORTANTLY ......... the INDIVIDUAL....... off to INTEL SITE.....gonna find an email address......

Right, put me down, i'm uber keen, especially since i've joined the ranks of 'satisfied' customers who are getting speeds lower than a 28.8 modem.

I might be able to hook up a GPS, its an old one thou, doesn't wireless2 have one? I do have a tRUSTY old honda four-stroke generator that we could lug around for power, although it is a very smelly & noisy beast.

Personally, sunday would be the best for me, how about we do the trip in two parts, breaking for lunch (read: BEER) in the middle?

If we do this in JHB, then the lads from PTA should do one of thier own so that they too can compile stats etc...

</font id="Trebuchet MS"></font id="size2"></div id="left">

Pretoria has a sum total of ~4 active towers at last count, so I think it's safe to say that if we sample the JHB ones we have pretty much 60-70% of the consumer base covered?

The lunch stop sounds like a good plan. Any GPS will do I think, since all we really need to do is get within a few hundred metres of the things.

Lonegunman.......GOOD IDEA....... are you joining in?????

Regarding the "PIEING".......that would be assault......imagine the caption...

"12 UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS arrested for assault on Supplier....weapon used 12 x cream pies"

The one problem i havewith that is due to our "LEGAL" system we would probably get 5 years jail time and the murderer in the cell "AKA BABA" would be out in 2 years...... thats putting your BUTT on the line...... Think thats a lot further than my BUTT is willing to go.....

So is this where we all bash our heads together and scream 'Road Trip!!!' ?

We should probably pop together a database, take pictures of all the towers, and any other infor related to it. That way we can popup a site, with graphs for each tower, and every angle of the tower with a nice picture next to it. And also, some kinda software to send and receive data between us all. To test the speeds from modem, to tower/router and back, gateway's and ip's. Tracert's and what else.
And quake3 to test what it would be like if intranet gaming hapens within the sentech network :)

PS: Oooh, and then we can get a bunch of candles and posters and go stand outside sentech office singing 'All we are saying, is give peace a chance'
hehe

I'm very keen to start doing some fun research in the field myself, great idea Rodent.. What about next weeekend Saturday, 17 July?

I'm useing my Modem on three different towers all the time.. Amazing to see the difference between then ,Bandwidth wise..
