MyWireless War-driving piss-up?

An idea..... we cover all the TOWERS that people connect to, who join us so that if you put the energy in to be there, you will have the benefit of the group testing.

Lets look at everyone throwing in a little bit of effort and then we will have tons to use in the future..... in other words, dont sit on the fence......come and get involved

hehe ;) if we test all the towers we all connect to .... you guys coming to pta to test my tower then ? :)

<br />I think next weekend, 17th/18th is prolly the best. I can easily setup us teh bomb, by giving us a small webdriven database at rodent.za.net, and some speed testing scripts that we can just click upon arrival.

Save yourself some time, recently, I had a thought, I came to a theory, and as whacky as it sounds, it might hold some validity, I just need some evidence, so I set up a exhaustive poll, I'm just dinishing off the reports, I should be putting it live tonight.
My theory is that all sentechs phase 1 towers, Helderkruin, hyd park, Mintek, linksfield etc seem to be giving ****, while the phase 2 towers, fourways, rosebank etc are happy, this also explains why we haven't heard much from the durbanites, or Ape-tonians.
I can speak for myself and another user on a new tower, we have both not seen more than 1 day with speeds under 8K, and have avg local latency under 100ms, the towers we are on are 22, fourways, and rosebank.
The poll databases users info on towers/nodes, and then compares speeds and latency of each node on each tower, so we can document, which towers , or which nodes on the towers are acceptable etc.

Rodent, if you would like to check it out, and let me know if theres anything I need to add to the poll, let me know, the URL is http://dorris.hopto.org
I'll finis it when I get home tonight, won't make it official until you let me know if there's anything else I should take into account!

As of last night work, there is no link for reports yet, and I still need to make some small adjustments, ie back.forward buttons, and memory of selected values on each page, also I am going to remove the catch preventing users from voting 2x, so users can document different experiences on different towers.

To anyone else that goes in today, the database will be cleared before I put it up finally, so your input is not going to be beneficial yet.
I will post a new thread when it goes live

I would add modem firmware, antenna type, time of ping test, time of d/l test. I assume d/l will be local, maybe a standard file from is.co.za, in order to compare apples with apples. Would love to see stuff like signal strength, BER, S-N-L (i.e. the stuff available on MySignal), possibly tower distance, interference with LoS, etc. I'll stop now....add what you feel like :-)

Like I said in other posts. The corporate people probably got to him and forced him not to post on this forum due to the legal issues and ***

I know from a good source at Sentech Orc Support that they were specifically told NOT to post on these forums... oh, and that there is a huge gap (between their ears?) between marketing and technical, apparently, marketing going bos on selling stuff that they can't deliver on etc....

oh, btw dorris, i'm on 82 (one of phase 1 towers) and have no speed problems, tested on 110 as well, still no speed trouble....

*theory debunked*

plus, the whole idea of this trip is to get gesuip

LUKE:
what you have mentioned would be interesting, but I wouldn't have a clue how to compile meaningful results with so much data ( one person with poor signal gets great speed, and another with great signal gets poor speed), what I'm trying to say, is things like reception/BER/LOS/T_Dist, are indefininite variables, I for one, have signal between 0% and 9%, and get 80% of my package at most times of the day, and sub 100 local pings.

regardtv: Thats why I initially drew up that poll, to get thorough knowledge of which towers and which nodes are problematic, I was planning on finishing the reports tonight, but it seems I'm going out now, maybe I'll do some brute force work in the early morning.

Just in case we hit Orc Reason 666 : Your bad speeds are related to signal less than n%. Doesn't have to form part of any report currently, but rather have the data in from the beginning, so that it's available later to (dis)prove various points.

bollocks! i've been told REPEATEDLY by VARIOUS call centre guys that the signal strength has NOTHING to do with your connection speed!

these guys are such bullsh!tters!!!

i finally lost it with one of them yesterday, after getting the "they're working on it" excuse for the umpteenth time... and retaliated with a "i'm sorry, but that just isn't bloodywell good enough anymore! That excuse has outlived it's validity, and I INSIST on being fed some different bullsh!t for a while now!"

Orc phoned me back later to tell me that he can't tell me anything else... unfortunately, but that the problem has been escalated to management... yeah... right... whatever!

Sentech: It's ass-tonishing!

noone, thanks for that solid debunking!!
well, its been interesting anyways, this has nothing to do with the trip, it should go ahead, as planned, I was suggesting the Rodent doesn't need to write an APP to document the results, it can all be done through this survey (that is, unless he has other plans)

Luke : Suggestion taken, I'll add it to the tower page, and keep a documented record of BER and Signal strength, although for now, I have nothing to do with the figures, who knows what can come up later!

Let`s see we hate Telkom for it`s Adsl,Sentech for mywireless and Multichoice for dumping Sci-Fi.
Somebody is going to go postal on one of these guys one day and it won`t be pretty.

As for Mr. Proasm he needs to come here undercover, disguise his ip address so saurons minions can`t find him.

multichoice dumped Sci Fi?!!

My DSTV was suppose to be installed next week [:(]

Yeah, Sci is no more
I'm still trying to recover.
They are using action channel for the rest.

On documenting the trip. I really think its worthwile.
And a video camera could be usefull too.
I mean, there's allota people here threatening to goto Cart Blance with this...
So bring your cameras hehe.

I think documented speeds, and any related tech info could be usefull to theorize on problems.
So popup Microsoft Access, and start adding ;)

I remember the interview

"I believe we will surpass ADSL within a year, and we will have more customers and more modems out there than our competitor."

I am game for this, have two account and two modems plus soime bigs ups we can use to recharge the modems ! and lots of beer ! might need to bring a driver with lol cause I cannot drive after 4 beers per site @ 10 sites = 40 beers.
