I m at the end of my tether. i want to do CompTia certified NETWORKING (N+) diploma and A+ (pc repair).
what is the duration of the diplomas and the average cost. which institution is best.

I would rather not invest in doing N+ and A+ courses... you wont get a decent job with only those two certifications.
If you really do not know the basics of how PC hardware word, buy yourself the A+ book which will be about R600-R700?
Study the book and the questions. The same applies for N+, although N+ would perhaps be worth writing the comptia exam.

I would start of with some MS exams, windows 7 to start with, then network infrastructure, Active directory etc.
IMHO you will never make decent money by just repairing PC's
Rather go into the Server/Networking Route.

Well, I did my A+ in only 3 months, I'm doing N+ next year, I don't know how long that takes. I'm doing a 2 year course that includes A+, CWNA, CCNA, Linux+, Project Management+, VoIP, N+, Server 2008, Email & Database Servers and Active Directory Administration. It cost me R80 000 and its totally worth the money.

80k....

Thats nice, where are you doing this course if I may ask...?

Madness! R80k?! I did on A+ and wrote my N+ 2 times. Advice: kno your stuff.
My thoughts exactly...Would like to know if this institution is actually compTIA accredited? My college charges a similar amount of money for such a course and they are not accredited, the books supplied as reference books are all official compTIA exam prep books... The exams are real close but for a fraction of the cost you can buy the books yourself and do the certificate online.

As far as the use for only N+ and A+ goes, Mweb and many other ISP's have lots of posts in their call centers for people who only have A+ and N+ certificates.

I mean I got called up for an internship interview with these 2 (international) certs, had the job. Declined it, now working at IC in technical. I'm 19, so lot's of studying ahead of me though!

It fine if you plan on doing some other certifications with A+ and N+ but if these two are the only courses you do the only jobs you qualify for are support roles.

If someone has no interest in developing they should try to work themselves up to a Network Administrator position.

I can't offer much advice to the OP besides for that and that he should avoid private institutions.

The institute i'm at is CompTIA accredited. When you walk in into the building there is lots of certificates on the wall which all have CompTIA on them, so that surely must mean they are compTIA accredited.

Haha I don't want to sound like the d@@s of the day but my institute has the same, yet they arn't any more. I would suggest you make 100% of the accreditation before you go on....80k is alot to pay and then you need to do the real exams aswell. Mind sharing where you study?I thought cti was the only place that charges that much for a year

If you have the self discipline then do it through self-study. I studied at a institution that had the A+, N+ and MCSD included in my national diploma. Unfortunately it was just out of school and I wasn't too clued up on how all the certifications worked. It was a bit of a joke if I look back at it now. It didn't include the international exams and the MCSD was only actually one of the modules! I ended up getting a techie job and worked my way up to network admin and then to systems engineer. During that time i completed all the international exams such as MCP, MCSE, MCITP-EA, etc via self study using only the text books and CBT Nuggets. If I could change things i would have skipped the Diploma and saved my folks a lot of cash . Just my opinion :-)

CBT Nuggets helped me pass my N+ exam with ease.I just want to ask how would you go about going and getting official CompTia text books.

I am looking at getting MCITP text books however cannot find any, i have CBT nuggets but having a text handy aswell always helps me put things into perspective.

I was planning to study with Falcon business college. they have been in the game for 17 years. i will write a national diploma exam. http://www.falconbusinessinstitute.co.za/ - what do you think of them.

A+ and N+ is just the beginning. I will take on web development Java specialist (comptia) and then web development -security specialist (comptia) what do you think.

You don't have to get the Comptia text books. All the other study guides available are just as good, sometimes even better. You will obviously need to get the book/guide for each exam separately. Either search the net or pop into your local book store

lol A+ and N+ were covered in one subject in the first six months of my Ndip IT. The 3 Years didn't cost me that much and covered everything you listed. You're ripping yourself off there :)

Oh ok.But thats what i mean,I searched the internet for books using Exam codes or descriptions of Each module and dont get anything. When you refer to book/guide would it be something like this:-

http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-SQL...0563/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317207404&sr=8-1

then i just view the CBT nuggets months before writing?
I know im asking alot of questions here but finance is a problem for me, so getting any means possible for me to understand and pass my exams with minimal costs is a must for me.
Paying R25000 for MCITP through CTU/IT intellect is something i cant do.

I'd be careful listening to all the sales speeches these people make, in my cti speech cti claimed that they have trained 60+ % of the people working in IT today.

Lol google around and get opinions from people on forums who have experience regarding these private colleges.
