Hi

After having read the stickied faq for n00bs (not the whole thing), I still have a simple question that I need an answer to.

If I get a wireless ADSL router, would I need to have PC 'ON' 24/7, or would the connection be managed/handled by the physical router itself? I'm asking this because I'd like to have wireless internet access at home, but if it means my machine will have to running 24/7 to maintain access, then I'd rather get a modem and run a proxy on my machine to share the connection.

I know there must be a solution that doesn't require a dedicated machine (PC), would this be the ADSL router?

One other thing... For the wireless router, I take it there's no limit on the number of connections that can be made?

Thanks

The Wireless Router simply needs to be on 24/7. That will allow any client to connect without needing specific computers on.

Not sure about the Max wireless client connections, sure someone can help you out with that. Would have thought "Unlimited" though.

Thanks for the reply.

One last thing... When using a router, would I still need to use the micro-filters for telephones/faxes?

Once again, thanks.

Yup. The router still connects to the normal ADSL network. Therefore you'll need to filter your other "normal" devices to prevent interference.

Thanks.

Sorry to be a nuisance, but I noticed on Telkom's website that not all routers are supported by Telkom... But on the website I only saw a few devices listed... Is hardware compatibility a big issue with Telkom's ADSL service?

And then also, most if not all wireless routers that I've seen have 4 ethernet ports as well... Are there any wireless routers without the ethernet ports? ie. a dedicated wireless router, with perhaps only 1 ethernet port? I'm looking to be cheap here... :-/

The best deal so far is a Billion wireless router for R725...

Thanks again.

I don't think compatibility is a major issue - maybe others can comment.
There are loads of different ADSL Modems and routers in use with no hassles.

As far as a wireless router without the 4 LAN ports - dunno - look around, but IMHO, those ports are very handy to have. (never know when they'll come in handy)
