N1 south Mini-subs

Has anybody noticed the mini-subs mostly on the N1 south between Rivonia rd and 14th Ave? They have pallisade fencing around with barb wire. There is also a security guard and a generator.

Any ideas why there is a generator?

Let me tell you how sad JHB is!!!

The brand spanking new highway street lights run off the generators because there is NO MAIN LINE ELECTRICITY for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Price of diesel anybody?

Its true what eskom said a few weeks ago,
1 light and 1 television!!!!!!

I left Jhb last week via the N1/N12 south and saw them even past the Maraisburg offramp.

A security guard at each one?

Maybe they are running on generators till after the World Cup?

:wtf: I don't see why the presence of generators should necessarily mean there is not grid connection.

The only place where major lighting runs on generators is broadcast sports events. Costs a fortune & is a hassle. Way too much hassle for street lights - even important ones.

Let me tell you how sad JHB is!!!

I see security & backup plans as positives.
