Got my N70 lconnected via Bluetooth to my laptop. Connection speed is 115kbps, so I take it thats the link speed between the 2 and not actual speed of internet connection.

I did a speed test, and it came to 126kbps.

Now, I still have MTN.GPRS and MTN.MMS settings on my phone (from previous Nokia 6600 days). Do I need to get "3G settings" on my phone, or does the GPRS settings automatically dial up on the fastest connection it gets (3G, otherwise EDGE, otherwise GPRS).

And if 115kbps is the speed between laptop and phone, how do I make that faster? (Obviously if connection speed on 3G is like 350+ and connection speed of bluetooth is 115, I won't get full speed on my laptop, right?)

Also got a 128k Sim card - dunno why a 128 and not a 32 or 64, but I had a 16k and the company is paying, so I said yes for the 128.

Please help, really new to this...

Thanks!

(Or please direct me to a thread where this is covered. Have looked around but can't find anything).

MTN GPRS will automatically use the fastest conn available, signal dependant. Using the crappy Bluetooth™, ur speed will indeed be limited to the the speed of your Bluetooth™, which is only 115kbps. Using the cable with your phone will get you 460kbps, which will allow you to use full speed of 3G. (Just wondering, but when we get HSDPA phones, will the cable then not throttle the connection also?). And enjoy the Bluetooth™ experiance, the phone will crash like a taxi on the M1 regularly with it. Nokia is just too wonderful in that regard.

Hi Bees

You also need to activate HSCSD (DATA-FAST).... U can do that by on your phone dialing *123*15# when u in a 3G coverage area. it will give u the following message "Your video calling is being q'd"
after a minute or so another sms stating "video calling has been activated"

Then u know your a for away....

but now cant you configure the modem to allow a faster speed?

i mean isnt it possible that hes running on that 115,2 kps that shows as a standard when you add the modem?

I think you're right. I get download speeds in excess of 200kbps over bluetooth although it is showing connected at 115kbps.

Increasing the Port Speed

Hi

If you go to Control Panel and Network Connections You will see the Bluetooth Connection Icon that would have been created. Right Click and then go to properties and then configure and set the speed to 460 800. That will increase the port speed and should speed up the connection

Thanks
