I have had a Nokia N80 for about 3 months now - when at home, or anywhere other than at work, I have no problems making/receiving calls or going online via 3G.

When at work, I have a competely different experience. Firstly, I was not able to go online via 3G. The phone shows a 3G connection, but when I actually try to go to a URL, I get a server connection failure.

About two weeks ago, the phone kept shifting from UTMS(3G) to GSM and back, randomly, and I could only make/recieve calls when in GSM mode. The signal also dropped from nothing to full intermittently. Various calls to MTN all resulted in the same outcome: the handset was blamed. The problem went away after 2-3 days.

Now I have a similar problem again, since last wednesday. The phone is constantly trying to establish a 3G connection to MTN MMS, then some data is sent for about 5 mins, and then the connection is dropped. While this is happening, any incoming/outgoing calls are cut off, with the message: connection error.. My data logs show many MTN MMS connections a day, despite my outbox being empty, and me not having sent any MMS's. Each time, between 300bytes and 1kb is sent.

A call to 16200 yeilded no solution. I was told by Simon to go to www.commonwarrior.com and download/install antivirus software. This URL does not exist, nor do I get any search results for this name.

To me it seems illogical that the problems I have experienced are the result of a virus. Why then do I not experience any problems when connected to towers other than the one at work? And even when I am at work, why do all the problems end when I force the phone into GSM only mode?? Also, why would a virus try to connect via MTN MMS and not MTN DATA?

Any help will be greatly appreciated..

Good day,

I don't think it's a virus it sould like a software or hardware related problem, will send this to my device manager to advise

Did you get the N80 through regular channels?

I have seen a case where the owner was adamant he is not generating traffic. It turned out he had a pre-release lab phone (he was a rep in the industry) and it kept sending maintenance and test messages to the lab back in the UK. All this was running hidden in the background of the OS.

In any case, PM your number and location and which building you are working in where the problems occur.
