N82

not that long.. maybe about a min or so... tested it driving from home to work this morning and it is pretty accurate... You get 3 days free voice prompts as well, thereafter you have to pay for that service..

Where did you get your N82 from? Mine had 2 years nav licence included.

a min is way too long...my n95 with agps is within 20sec

There is absolutely no difference between N95 and N82 gps lock time. Average time I get with both phones is about 45s, unless I try and get a lock in the same place where I closed the gps app, in which case it is instant.

hey, like i said... i only got the phone yesterday, and the first time i put it on, it took ABOUT a min, not exactly... Its not like i am going to get lost if i dont have it on in 10 seconds... I am just very happy that my phone has GPS in it in the first place....

I got my phone from autopage, and yes, mine also comes with a 2 yr nav licence, but as far as i know, the voice prompts is only a 3-day trial period?

When I say "nav" I mean voice guided navigation. I am pretty sure that you have a 2 year licence on your phone, it gets activated together with the 3 day trial.

oh, ok.... i thought it was like how i mentioned, but if not and its free for 2 years, then even better! makes the phone 5x as good as its nearest competitor rather than 3x... :p

What is the expected life time of these two phones? N82 and the N95 8 gig?
I would think its compromising between the n95 8gig 's powerful battery vs the n82 xenon flash.I'm undecided on which to take.N95 8gig looks better(for me).

It depends on your needs. The first thing about the 8GB model is that you have to transfer all the data over USB, which is very slow (I believe I've read somewhere it's 3hr for the full 8GB, but I may be wrong). With the N82, you can use a 8GB card and stick it in the card reader which makes things a lot faster.

Battery life I can't really comment on, since I charge my phone every night anyway, and both will last the whole day.

The camera with a LED flash is useless not just in the dark, but in any conditions when you don't have 100% light - photos come out with a blueish tinge, and if you use night mode they are invariably more blurry as shutter speed is decreased greatly. One thing I have noticed is that the N82 camera is a lot faster than the N95, when initialising and taking successive photos.

Form factor is also a big deal, I never liked the slider on the N95, and in quite a few phones it's loose. N82 has a much better build quality than the N95, by virtue of the fact that it's a bar phone with no moving parts.

Screen wise, the N95 wins hands down - it has a much bigger screen.

Get whichever suits your needs better - the great thing is that you will not go wrong either way.

I got a question regarding the N82.. I installed 3 games this morning, tried to run one of them, and it froze while loading.. since then, the games have dissapeared off the phone, even though i only tried 1 of the 3.

I installed them using the application installer in PC suite, and i cant find where they were installed on the phone itself to un-install them again...

any ideas??

I have a similar problem, but the game loads but it flashes for a second every 10 seconds... I hate it when im playing Asphalt Racing, everytime I get to the corners the screen goes blank. I think theres a problem with the Ngage software, havent tried the N81 yet.

What games? Hopefully legal...

Lol legal games!:p

Also fine on my N82 - probably some other apps causing issues.

games were Call of duty 3, some noob cricket game and a racing game..

and yes.. they were legal...

where do i get the firmware update from? the phone itself, or can it be downloaded via a pc?

"remember, i am a noob when it comes to these new mini-pc's.. :p"

Use Nokia Software Updater - if you download the most recent version of PC Suite you will get it bundled with that.

I just downloaded the new PC suite for Nokia and it is 10x better and more user friendly than the version supplied on the installation DVD, and it includes a media converter in it (which does actually work..). I also did a firmware upgrade last night (100Mb) and the phone seems to run even better now than before...

Is a 2GB card with the N82 the norm? Might be getting the phone tomorrow or the next day from Cellphonics/MTN franchise at Canal Walk. It's R289 per month on a Procall 120 with no pay in.

Also, if I have an 4 year old, possibly 16k sim card, would I probably have to get a new sim card to keep the N82 happy?
