N95 equivalent

Is the phone worth it? The reason why I'm asking is the boss wants it and people are saying no don't get. I haven't played much around with that phone, so I can't tell to get it or not.

Yay <-> Nay ????

Best phone I've ever owned, bar none. One caveat though - if you're not a bit of a techno-junkie get something else. The N95 (and all Symbian phones, as I understand it) takes a fair bit of fiddling around to get it to do everything the way you like it...

N95 8GB

+1 - especially now that there is a hack to up the brightness on the phone.

Will have a look at the hack (google is your friend)

Personally I have been using my N95 8Gb since December (got one of the first ones ;) )

Just love everything on it.

Yeah the N82 has a Xenon Flash (but it also suffers from the same noise issues that ALL digital cameras suffer from with night shots).

Yeah I also know that it does not have a memory card slot (but I have not been able to fill up the 8GB build in SD card).

It is a stable phone (yes there has been 3 firmware upgrades - but for me it seems Nokia is fixing / adding more functionality to the phone :-D)

Still does not come with Maps 2.0 (even on firmware 20.0.016). But that is an easy upgrade...

The problem is I would love an iPhone (but think it is either going to sell out / bum out due to Vodacom not pricing it right - or adding Content Adaption to it (don't think so anymore due to how they buggered it up)...

The N96 is a better phone (but it will not be available soon - and it will cost ALOT)...

This is the problem we all face:
1) Want the best NOW
2) Cannot afford the best NOW
3) When we buy what we can afford, the NEXT BEST is just launched a week later (for same price)...

Good luck

PS - I have found that getting something similar to the phone they are using right now (if they are happy with it) is the best bet,,,

this is so true for all gadgets

Did it keep your 2 year navigation intact. I've done phone firmware upgrades by changing the product code, then changing back for the navigation licence.

But does the licence work on the newer version? (Edit: yes it does)

Mmmm - personally, I would say definitely get the 8gb N95 - not so much for the memory, but for the speed difference - it's a speed demon compared with the first N95!

Otherwise, I'll echo what's said above - if you are a bit of a geek, it's a great phone, but if you want technology that just consistently works without hassles or fiddling, then I'd get something else.

On one level, the iPhone 3g may be a competitor - sure, no turn by turn GPS so far, and it has some other limitations (camera, missing MMS, some missing phone features) but in some ways (browser / user interface / ipod features / ease of use) it kills the N95, and may be a better phone for a 'non-techie'.
