I while back Nokia had the new version 20.x.x.x available for the N95 but in SA, for some or other unknown reason, we couldn't get it (somthing to do with MTN). Anyway, I check this morning and it is available, so I can go from 12.x.x.x to 20.x.x.x.

Has anyone LOCALLY done this upgrade, is it worth the hassle, any tricks I should be aware of? I have checked out international sites and all seems fine, just want some local feedback.

Thanks

Yeah, I upgraded to that version when it became available in Europe ... bricked a N95 in the process, which was replaced by Nokia :)

It is slightly faster than the older firmwares, but to be honest I haven't noticed a HUGE improvement. Which version (complete and not .xx.xx) is available now?
My N95 is still set to Europe so I can't check

cant you run the software updater?.....I can immediately check...im on da road.

Maybe you missed the point where I said my phone is still set to Europe, so when I run the updater, it will tell me what is available (if any) for Europe, and not the release available for SA

Oh ok.....wasnt aware that software updater would do that, I thought it was linked somehow to the service provider or SIM card

Incidently, the software it proposes is 20.0.0.015

Hmmm, I think Im gonna risk it!:eek:

there is no risk involved... biggest is possibly losing some data, if you don't backup nciely, be very weary of the Nokia Backup Utility, rather backup files seperately, and sync your contacts to your email app or ZYB.

Changing your product code involves a slight "risk"..

Glad to hear it - always is - just hold thumbs Eskom doesn't push it's nose where it doesn't belong and load-shed half way!

I updated my N95 to 20.0.015 a couple weeks ago, no appreciable difference in phone performance, but no problems either. For some reason my "Log" application now sits in the "Tools" menu, where before it was under "Applications" ... no issues with that small detail. Also installed the new menu structure - no great shakes really.

I think the download was around 113 MB

It should make things quicker... and more stable! It did for me when I did it a few months ago....

Nokia just released the v.20.0.015 firmware update for the Nokia N95-1 ‘classic’. Download and install available via Nokia Software Update. This is probably the N95’s most important update, bringing demand paging functionality to the N95 classic. The update is (at the time of writing) available for EURO1 product codes, you’ll find instructions on how to update your phone here.

What’s new?

* Demand paging and 30MB free RAM after booting! (faster and smoother phone)
* New welcome application
* New camera software, camera also works faster now.
* Hold camera button to launch camera (if shutter is open).
* My Nokia application added, SMS tips and mobile web portal system
* Search 4.0 included, integrated on standby screen like the N95 8GB.
* Multimedia menu not changed (still the old one).
* N-Gage game previews available now just like the N95 8GB and the N81 (Fifa and Asphalt).
* Nokia Music Store application added
* Keypress bug gone?
