N95 Thread

Ok, sorted - thank's Devon.

My laptop's built-in bluetooth device reports it's own "Dail-up Networking" service to other bluetooth devices so they can use my laptop as a "modem" to connect to the internet via it's built-in modem. This name clashes with the default Nokia service name.

I renamed this service and now the Nokia DUN service registers and connects just fine.

Had to put in some "extra initialization commands" - +CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" in order to connect.

Did an iburst online speed test reporting the following:

Download speed: 42.1 kbps
Upload speed: 87.4 kbps
Quality of service: 15%
Jitter: 27.5 ms
Packet loss: 9.7%

Is this normal for a 3G connection, or has it got something to do with the "extra settings" ?

Seems a bit slow for 3G?
 
Only as of this week.

MTN required codes before.

I didn't change it. Vodacom did at their service centre in Vodaworld. They led me to believe that they had updated the firmware. On my way out I realised the Firmware was the same V. 11 and I'd wasted 2 hours waiting for them. Only when I got home and did the Software Updater did I realise they'de changes the code. Now I've got the new V.12 firmware but have a phone that is not under warranty because of the code change.
 
That is very interesting indeed. If they changed the product codes then it was done under the supervision of an accredited deal, I wouldn't allow my warranty to be spoiled because of them.

Either change it back to the original product code, or keep it like that and inquire about what happened at the Vodashop to make sure you have not lost the warrant.
 
Ok guys, well I have been looking at appz and all that, and having the same problems as i did with my n80, What appz do you guys have on your N95's, why and what do they do.
This way we dont all have to sift through appz

GooSync is not so much an application as a service that allows you to sync one or more google calendars with your phone. Single calendar is free, multiple is payed for.
Opera Mini is a mobile browser that reformats pages at an intermediate server to save on data usage. Not something I'd use for cellphone banking but great for non-private stuff.
GMail app, nice because it's quicker than pop and doesn't mark mail as retrieved from the pop server so they still get pulled by my thunderbird as well.
Calcium is an excellent calculator replacement that makes more intuitive use of cellphone key layout.
GoTalkMobile is a mobile Google Talk client. (I've tried multiprotocol ones, and occasionally use Fring for voip, but I find GTM is the best for just GTalk).
WWIGO lets me use my N95 as a webcam for skype, etc.
ShoZu allows easy uploading/blogging of photos and videos to an insane number of destinations including flickr, picasa, youtube, blogger, email and ftp. It also has a limited number of 'zucasts' that can be subscribed to and the ability to sync your contacts, but I don't use those. It has very logical access point use, so you can force it to only use certain access points and in an order you prefer.
Frozen Bubble is a decent free puzzle game ported from linux.
Deep is a 3D underwater trading/shooting game.

And of course I have copies of all our mobile games, but they're not really designed for such a large screen ;)
 
ive tried all those proggies cept one or two, i dunno, they just dont seem to catch my eye.... now that the N95 has a proper clock manager i dont even need to install handy clock.. hmm, need 3rd party appz!
 
anyone having problems with audio quality of the earpiece? it always sounds like the person on the other line is shouting, the earpiece resonates and distorts horribly!!! other than that it's a fantastic handset!!!

There is a solution on the internet? If it is a problem with the dislocation of the speaker, apparently a suck on the speaker will cure it.

hell this sounds like a bit of a long shot but i'll be sucking face.... eh, sucking my n95's earpiece just as soon as she's finished charging... hehe.... hope it works, once any repair department has opened her up, she's never the same again. inevitably comes back with new problems so i'm really trying to avoid that ixia route...
 
This FreeFlight game is really fun, just mindless flying!

This is Flight simulator game where you take off, fly around and try to land the plane on the runway, its not particularly involved but the feeling of flying is surprising good even with the simple graphics. I like putting the plane into a sharp dive and seeing how close i can get to the ground before pulling up! There are a choice of four planes including F-16 falcon

Piesang, where can I buy 3G pre-paid for R70? Internet Solutions?
Seeing as you can get 1GB adsl for R70...

I just want to buy 1GB 3G bandwidth for R70 at Engen, the same you can buy the Axxess 1GB ADSL bandwidth. I dont see why we must pay R389 for 2GB from vodacom ;)
