Various N95 apps

I've not tried any of these apps, but here goes:

S60 3rd Edition FREEWARE thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1016492

An app I'm quite interested in (have to pay though) is Gysnc - Allows you to archive your messages to a Gmail account and will group your SMS/MMS conversations as Gmail conversations to create the “thread format”: http://shop.psiloc.com/en/Application,262287,Psiloc+GSync

The only app I've installed so far is the Sports Tracker from Nokia Research: http://research.nokia.com/research/projects/SportsTracker/ This gives you your speed, unlike Nokia Maps, and you can download KMZ files to overlay onto Google Earth.

3D FPS Game to show off 3D engine

i installed the weather one ... useful for me as i do travel often around the country and am tired of being the one wearing a t-shirt when its 1 deg C outside and everyone else is up tp date with the weather....

For anybody wondering about the GPS functionality in the N95..

I've downloaded Nokia's Sports Tracker, and here (http://d.turboupload.com/d/1739787/New_workout2.kml.html) is a sample of a track output by same app for Google Earth.

link is not valid ....

BTW any GPS apps out that have turn by turn navigation that of course will work in South Africa ...

I tried the Google Maps Nav and its extremely slow and it also eats bandwidth ... i dont like ... http://www.google.com/gmm

Guys, question.

A friend of mine got a N95 over the weekend and he would like to use the GPS navigation. When he starts the app, it just says 'no GPS location found'. What is he doing wrong?

*I know all about RTFM, but we haven't got a manual with us....

Hi

I haven't seen a error like that. (yet). What I do is open the Maps software, go to Options, View, Satellite info.

You will get a screen that says "Satellite status". There should be anything from 1 to 5 bars on there. As soon as they turn solid black you will have a GPS lock.

This could take anything from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on where you are at that specific moment.

Hope this helps.

That sounds like the info we were looking for! Thanks Piesang, much appreciated. ;)

Another question about the N95 and GPS.

Every time my friend wants to use the GPS on his N95, he must first get a GPS lock - is there a way to have it enabled permanently?

I know it will most probably drain the battery in no time, but he plugs his phone in his car charger when he's driving, so it shouldn't be a problem.

*I know this is stuff that's probably in the manual, but I'm just trying to help him.

it is permanently enabled as long as the map program is running...
you could i suppose get a lock once then not exit the map program so that it's still running in the backgroud and also not go into any buildings that would cause the GPS to lose the lock....

rather tell him to open map app while walking to the car, by the time his starting his car it should have a lock works for me :) also you need to have the slide open to get lock faster

You can also try this.

Go to Tools, GPS Data and get a GPS lock in the GPS Data application. Your battery wont drain that quickly when using GPS Data supposed to the Map software.

The map software and maps are usually saved/installed on the memory card. When the memory card is in use it uses more battery power. The larger the memory card, the more power as well.

The GPS Data software is installed on the phone so the memory card wont be that active.

This is not something I read somewhere, but I'm sure that this will help.:D

Don't shoot me if I'm wrong.
