Naas is very smart when it comes to rugby - he just sounds **** in English, which is unfortunate, but in Afrikaans you can listen to him all day.
I can't even remember the last time I heard him speaking Afrikaans. Always only in English on TV. (I know right, imagine that, expecting to see people speaking South African in South Africa)
When he was actually playing, was a little before my time. I was just a kid.
The most I remember is Leon Schuster mocking the crap out of him. Not a big fan apparently.

No. In offense, you have 2 running backs, full back and Half back, and 2 wide receivers.
In Rugby the Fly half needs to read the oppositions strategy, control the game and improvise. In American football the game plan gets analyzed and chosen before each play.
It's fun to watch and play if you cut out all the dead times.

Naas didn't play much at the Cowboys and was positioned as a placekicker, and I doubt he was greatly compensated during this exercised. Kicker contracts (and salaries) are amongst the lowest in the NFL today, only to know how much it would had been back in the 70/80’s. When Naas didn’t succeed he ended up playing rugby in the US, placing the sport somewhat on the globe, as we all know the US is the world in any sports sense.

Yah, he was a placekicker. The Dallas Cowbays trialled him, and he didn't tick all the boxes, and ended up playing rugby in Dallas.

A lot of sports were amateur then. Look up John Tarrant and the Comrades. He got paid 50p for a boxing match when he was a kid and could never run officially in the comrades. Now there is prize money running into millions.

My old man was captained of EP Cricket and Rugby around the same time, I'll never forget I asked him when I was young if he got paid, he said they gave him a pie and a coke after the game.
