Naks' Solar System:

Boom! You're not holding back on this one, are you?
Congrats

Well, I want to be off-grid as much as possible in summer, and I wanted the Victron quality, so that's that.

I actually wanted an 8kWh system, but the guy told me that's overkill for just 2 people in a small house.

Can you post a picuture on those mounting structures that cost R17.4K.
Sadly those would be stock standard flat roof mounts. I've been breaking my head to find a cheaper solution too, but for some reason 30% angles are crazy expensive.

My plan is to install 16 panels.... at that rate I might be better off re-doing the roof to have the required pitch... Edit: read poorly... flat mounts... that is nuts

Congrats! Pulling out the big bucks on Victron there! Keen to see what that monster battery looks like once it's mounted...

Nice one @Naks - very impressive. 5kw should be good - we are a family of 4 and we get by with a 5kw Inverter and only 2.6kWp panels. So you should be good.

Would be interested to find out why Victron vs (insert other inverters) and also SolarMD vs (insert other batteries)?

Congrats  Another Victron install but a larger one than ours!

Do you know how the PV panels will be setup? Two strings of six PV panels?

Thanks.

Well, the company proposed one solution with SunSynk inverters, and one with Victron. I know the Victron stuff, and I wanted the quality + warranty.

SolarMD because that's what they use and have found to be very reliable + has a good warranty as well.

Because of the high winds we get here and the flat roof, they are putting down some concrete rails into which the panels will be secured.

Not sure how to explain it, but it will be clearer once it's all done.

Those concrete slabs look pretty much like lintels to me. Thanks for the pictures. Please post an after picture once it is installed

Coming along nicely.

The setup is in the study, behind the door (removed for access).

That door stays open, so everything is out of sight unless you go into the room and look behind the door.
