Nando’s vs MTN

Saw the poster yesterday, and in my extremely hungover state I thought it was a MTN Nando's collaboration, and that they were taking on CellC with it's Hummer campaign. Didn't even realise that there was no cellphone on offer...

Everythig is getting expensive. Nandos is pretty much on par with all the other fast food places, and imo if the lesser evil and the more 'healthy' option.

Its scary how expensive things are getting. A few years ago, and I mean a good few years ago - don't want to show my age :) but when Nandos just opened it was R6.95 for a burger meal - now its like R30!

Big fan of Nando's - me likes things spicy, esp the burgers and pitas.

Personally I cant stand (m)any of the alternatives . . . especially Smears.

He speaks the truth.

I agree, Nando's are the only takeaway's I get cravings for, but price

Well a 1/4 chicken, spice rice and a bun is R25....thats not so bad is it??

I think Nandos may get away if they can get off on the grounds that it is a parody.

I don't see how ASASA could rule against Nandos which does not compete with MTN, and besides MTN is getting free publicity from Nandos' advertising campaign...

IMO MTN has handled this extremely badly, all that MTN needed to do is contact Nandos and ask to be included in the advertising campaign - maybe offer a 2nd Yello Hummer from MTN or something - instead MTN sets the lawyers loose...

I'm getting a bit tired of Nandos always deliberately getting itself into 'trouble' with its ads in order to get lots of extra free publicity and get people talking about them - it was funny the first few times but now it's getting tired --- Nandos, your service sucks tragically and your food has become mediocre and overpriced, please focus on these issues rather and maybe I'll actually consider ever buying your food again.

this is true. their food has lost it's attraction! :(

Tit for Tat

The first time I saw the Nando's Y'ello Hummer ad I cracked myself. I saw immediately the gall of it and thought it was actually smart of Nando's to get the 'jump' on MTN :D

I strongly resent any company thinking they can 'own summer' so I feel no compassion for MTN that is in fact getting a free ride from all this attention. Who wouldn't want to be the 'Spicier Choice' and since MTN don't sell food, surely it could only be the spicy choice for cellular communication ... right? :D

At least Nando's have a track-record of making fun of other companies so I don't for once think they want to own summer like MTN does. There is no monopoly on the word Y'ello! Heck, For the past 10 years I've been greeting people with the phrase "Y'ello ... blue and green" both in person and on the phone (if I see a friend's number) so I don't see MTN's point at all.

Then again, as tasty as Nando's food is, perhaps MTN is upset with "possibly" being associated with "more expensive" (as if any company needed help with that in South Africa hehe). Many forumites have already commented on the price. It's a personal preference, if they deliver on the quality of food you want, you accept the price they ask. If not, go elsewhere. Want both quality and low cost? Then complain and do some lobbying to bring food prices down

What a load of crap. We all pay for this rubbish, that's the real crime. Their lawyers fees and AD budgets come straight from our pockets.

Go back to pagers and make your own chicken burgers at home. A boycott is the only way in this place.

I would like to know exactly how we all pay for this??
Surely this doesn't come out of taxpayers money?
Or are you reffering to MTN/Nandos(lol) customers?
