Nandos quality deteriorating?

I was told by my local nandos manager that the nandos franchise is taking over all the stores from them and they are no longer owners but just managers of that store. I believe that explains the drop in portion size throughout and the mad increase in price. We used to eat there at least once a week, now we only go maybe once every few months

Nando's Canal Walk is terrible. Their wedges are either raw or cold. Stopped buying there after this happened twice in succession.

Maybe their chicken is injected with the magic aqua sauce ?
Personally never entered a Nandos, ever.

interesting comment, because when I complained about the chicken at the Adderley branch, I received a call from the manager saying he was reappointed from Canal Walk and he was going to improve the service...

I recently had some at adderley street, was rather grossed out by the chicken... wonder if they purchased it from the shoprite next door to cut costs...

Nandos SA is not really the money maker for the group anymore, its at best second place.

Nandos UK is by far and away the bigger money maker..

I would guess because of that, the quality has slipped to try and make more profit from the SA stores.

I think UK is a separate holding company held by one guy, so SA and UK profits are not comparable

Quality of everything in SA is deteriorating.....
The Nando's chickens are getting smaller and the price is getting bigger.
Full Chicken R124.90 WTF how much mark up is that, the chicken probably costs them R15
I do a better chicken then them anyhow.

If you buy in large quantities then you pay between R30 and R35 per bird.

Since they pretty much fall under Nando's Group Holdings as a whole they kind of are.

Not saying they not comparable if you wanted to compare but my point is Nandos Group holding Sa is not the same as company holding UK -I might be wrong ?
The UK arm, owned by the Enthoven family via a private equity company, struggled until chairman Dick Enthoven put his son Robert in control. The focus then moved from takeaways to a mixed service (counter ordering and table service) model.[3] Branches also chose individual design and decor to move away from a restaurant-chain image. The company employs around 8,000 staff in the UK and, as of 2013, had over 280 branches in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with some 60 being halal.[3]

Heh heh! :D

Very much about what one "grows up with" I guess.

As a kid we only got "spicy food" when there was something "not quite right with the meat", so now I unconsciously "associate" excessive spicyness with "not quite right" food .....

I like my fish and red meat (steak and chops) to simply have good salt and pepper seasoning, but chicken needs to be spicey if flame grilled

I'm going to guess the ownership structure is complex for tax reasons more than anything else...

Ultimate control vests with Nandos Group Holdings... and since the UK gets the lions share of the profit they get the most attention.

Like MTN fafing about in other countries and letting their customer service slide to hell in SA...

Can't say I have noticed a drop in quality, perhaps smaller portions. . But I find a full chicken with 3 sharing sides for R189 makes for a good family meal. Not too often though.

Had that tonight. Pity they removed the 2lt coke, it was a really good deal.

Use to work for them, NGH SA only has a % holding in the UK unless it changed since I left. Enthoven holds the majority. Robbie and Fernando hold sway locally but it gets diluted on the international side.

When I was there consolidation of the accounts consisted of about 176 separately registered companies being rolled up into 1 set of accounts. Ultimately holding was in Belgium at that stage but work done from here.

Most of the art in the UK stores comes from SA, Enthoven has a couple of buyers here doing the selections.

My usual order from them since I can remember has been the half chicken meal extra hot.

However after my last three purchases I've now stopped going there, not only is the chicken rather bland these days, the prices are crazy and the portions smaller.

This is specifically the Long Street and Adderley branches, but speaking to friends they also have had similar experiences elsewhere.

I've complained through the formal channels previously but all they offer you is a free meal without actually addressing the issue.

There is always steers flatties.

Chips are ****loads better ;)

Sounds like what I would expect really... maybe a bit more centralised control though...
