Nanny ill - Payment?

@Dolby

1. I need to apologise for making fun at you and your nanny.

2. I am now in the same situation, where our domestic who only came in one day a week, is suddenly sick last week and this week.

Can I ask for a doctors letter event though she only comes in once a week, but technically she is now sick more than a week.

Ha! Confirmed. She is out of town and lied.

How do I proceed now? She won't be in for 3 weeks.

Do I serve her with a warning letter?

Well.... To be honest. She is one of the best domestics I ever met and works very well. I fact I have never had to give her any instructions. So for now the least destructive route, but also a serious warning.
Perhaps just ask her why she could not just have asked for away time to go out of town first in a calm manner?

If you want to go the absconding route the onus is on you to prove they did not have a good reason to not show up for work. So you need to force her to provide a reason and make sure you have a record of that.

What is your intension? Keep her on with a warning or has the trust been broken?

She messaged my after some questioning and I would like to take her to the doctor so she can better. Then she just said she is on holiday in Jozini .

I'm happy with a warning. But also going to tell her she received all sick leave for her 3 year period. Anything going forward is unpaid.

Absenteeism is probably the right thing to go with then as there is indication that she will return to work. You will need to follow all the steps for issuing a warning and keep it in a file for her. Its valid for 12 months and you don't have to pay her for those days.(leave is approved by the employer the employee can't just decide to take it)

Once something like this happens its usually down hill so keep record, do the research and follow procedure.

Thanks. Will see if I can contact CCMA as well. Need to find someone to help me the next 2 weeks as well.

Is it really worth the hassle for three days?

Personally I thought it was pretty standard for domestics to take time off during this period to be with their family. Presumably she took off after you gave her her Christmas box?

It should be same as every other year, so I’m guessing this year is somehow different.
Worth the hassle? Nope.

Ja, imagine just asking why instead of crucifixion first.
