Nanny ill - Payment?

Honestly have you looked at creches? Or do you have nanny cameras?

All I think is there is more to the story than you wanting the doctors certificate

There really isn't any more. It's just difficult arranging other sitters in a few hours.

I've seen others that treat employees like friends and give them days off / don't question anything that goes on. They set a precedent for future behavior and ultimately it backfires.

If a letter is due legally, I want it on record
If not, then there's no need for anything

If there's any CCMA down the line, I'm covered as well

PS She's registered wit UIF. She's from an agency

I have cameras.

With kids at only 8 months, I wasn't comfortable with a creche. Kids were also prem and with lower immune systems, I prefer them at home for the time being

Creche was also around R8,000 per month. Having just paid 6 figures on medical, I the extra R2,000 saving was something I needed.

I'll relook a creche early next year.

8k for creche wow, but it is 2, sadly our son was in creche from 3 months.

Yeah, I should be stricter I guess. But our lady only comes in once a week and only for max 6 hours. So it is a bit more challenging. I generally try to arrange another date if she can't make the one day.

If I remember correctly you had that really nice tube pre amp, worth more than my car.

Was it you that took it for a demo a while back, can't remember?

I've got Karel building a matching power amp for it currently, but still on the down low till posting deers.

the cost of creche is irrelevant because it depends on where you sending the kids. Where I live they charge 1800 per kid per month 7 am to 6 pm.
The lady who used to come to watch my son 3 years back used to leave her kids at a creche in Philipi and come to take care of my son, she used to pay R20 per day

Lol, I'm surprised she didn't bring her kids along, and started a daycare for the neighbors

Why do erm, affluent people get charged so much for creche, surely someone can set up a low cost alternative? You know, like DSTV has tiered packages.

Don't you have like a R75k sound system?
Irrelevant question?

Anyhow of all people, you should know what used HiFi sells for in the end. I was offered R20k for R70k speakers - so it's not worth it in the end.

Just FYI within Covid times things have changed drastically for many people. Investments dropped 80%+ ; dividends stopped paying out ; bonuses and increases halted ; tenant squatted ; twins and medical costs etc

Hence why the kids can't go to creche right now. Dolby at least has his priorities still straight.
Very judgemental ;)

If you knew how my life has changed and how I'm living right now / what I've given up on for my kids...

I hope you're not referring to me on the affluent people? I'm probably of the poorest here ;)

Hell, you saw the comments? Other posters are appauled that I even considered taking off a day leave! They all give unlimited leave / sick / medical / schooling etc! This because a 'can I take off her leave?' thread to a bragging thread of how much people do/pay for their employees.

Anyway, it's 2 kids - and it's just under R8k if I recall. I've Googled and the cost seems with other schools too (it's not this school, just an example)

At the end of the day, fair is fair both ways, and an agreement, has to be honored.

I disagree with the idea that you should spoil your employees, as any concessions quickly become the norm. So the most fair is a contractual obligation from both parties, until one terminates.

As for nursery costs, I would ask exactly 1 question, what value is my child getting from the service that I'm paying for? How is this service a benefit to my childs' future and education. If they can't answer that. Then the price is not validated.

If I don't attend work either Monday or Friday, I'm asked for a medical certificate. If I provide, great - if I don't, then it's unpaid. That's pretty much most companies.

I don't think my boss will say 'argh it's day or two'
Chances are that you don't get paid same as Nanny so it is different. I don't get paid for hour that I don't work - that goes with territory of contracting and no complaints whatsoever.

Be a nice person (pretty sure you are) and allow occasional sick leave as she is a human being and can be sick at times. They don't exactly have the pristine healthy environment we are in.

I will not be hypocrite to say I treated our Nanny as a friend. However, we treated our nanny with respect & dignity gave them whatever off she needed, all paid as per verbal agreement (that became contract later). In 2.5 years when we had her with us, I don't recall her abusing it at all.
