Black Friday is upon us and I have seen this 55inch LG Nano79 TV advertised for R10k. Seems like a good price, but want to know if anyone has one and get advice / review. Comparative TVs out there?

Do you have a Kloppers near you, maybe Marko. They have these on display

I was going for the 65" Nano79, but for R2000 more i got the Q86 from Hisense, it's in a way different league! Even the samsung q60t seems meh compared to the hisense.

But comparing your option to the samsung equivalent, LG was more accurate on colors for me than the samsung.

Thanks Brendan. I will check out the HiSense. They have built a good brand and am looking for something newer and spending a bit extra is worth it since will be keeping it for a good few years

This is exactly why i spent a few more bucks.
65" and quantum dot tech at this special price. The black are amazingly deep on this panel.

Ive been doing some research about the 65nano79 and apparently the IPS panel in it has great viewing angles but the contrast is not great compared to the cheaper VA samsung panels.

There has also been a lot of complaints about colour banding in darker scenes.

Viewing angle not a concern for me, but colour definitely is. Thanks for the info.

The issue gets more complicated with some new models at good prices... Advice on:

Q8600 vs Q8F vs Q70T

Funny you started this thread. I ordered a 65NANO79 yesterday and it should be here before the end of the week.

Coming from a FHD 42" from 2011 I think there will be a massive difference :)

I went from a top of the range Samsung 46" 3D TV in 2011 to an entry-level LG 49UM7340. The LG is miles ahead with it's Smart TV system and general picture quality. You'll love the LG if you have a well lit room and need wide viewing angles.

Q8F, 4 year warranty and FALD for that price for a TV that came out a few months ago .
I had a look at that , the Q60T and the Q70T and the Q8F picture stood out .

Wow, i was thinking of going OLED for a gaming and office monitor but the Nano90 seems perfect for my use case, since I won't have burn-in when doing my office work.
I can't seem to find the price of the nano90 55inch.

I'm not too phased about the viewing angles, and I plan on mitigating the poor black levels with some LED strips behind the panel as well.

I think coming from a nine-year old LCD panel, almost anything will be better in terms of image quality.

I was initially set on Hisense but just heard a lot of stories of the software not being up to scratch on some units, which put me off a little. The equivalent Skyworth was about the same price, and I couldn't find much info on them. The same goes for Panasonic and Sinotec.

I've never had a 'bad' LG appliance before, so I guess that also had some bearing in my decision to try them out. My LG LED monitor is also still going strong, which I got in 2011 or 2012 :)

I also ended up going for the 65" version, as we will be sitting a bit farther away from the panel when we move house in the next couple of months

I wanted to buy a 65nano86 and then countless hours spent on YouTube and the web got me super confused as to what to buy. Then it became maybe the Q70T from Samsung but that also had issues in review in that this year's q70 is worse than last year equivalent

In the last two days, I was thinking about Hisense uq8f (?) And doing research on that. Hate hisense software though but want a reliable TV - seems.they have a while to go.

My TV needs earc as a minimum as I am also getting a Sonos arc soundbar.

Then was thinking maybe settle for a nano79 as cheap and cheerful but when I saw the HDTVtest video of a nano90 Vs q90t and the horrible blooming with subtitles (subtitles always on for me) - I decided fsck the LG nano range .If they can't get it right on their highest model range how bad must the nano79 be?

What I can't understand is how come i have never seen these types of issues on my 11 year old Samsung TV? Has the technology regressed that badly? I don't notice judder or blooming with subtitles.

Anyway, today bought an OLED. Now I can't complain .. unless the 65 inch version is cheaper in two days !!

So my 65" TV arrived...and the panel was cracked straight out of the box :(

I have a feeling I am going to get hassled with returning this, because I have no proof that it happened while in transit. Took the packaging off and plugged the power in just to test before mounting it - a nice spiderweb on the left side of the panel and no display at all :(

EDIT: After packing it back in the box, the start of the crack is right where a piece of polystyrene cushion lies, and on the outside of the box at that same location there are what looks to be indentations from a ratchet strap or something. So I suppose that is what caused the damage as it is right in line with where the panel got damaged.

It is what it is. I expect nothing less from 2020 at this point in time.

The replacement TV is scheduled for delivery for today, but I have seen no sign of the courier yet. If they are not here by 17h00 then I will follow up. It's not the first time this particular courier has given me the run around with a delivery (incidentally, also regarding a television set).

EDIT: 16h13 and no show from the courier. I called them a little earlier, and they said that the item was never handed to them but the collection is still scheduled for today. So there may be a possibility of a lost TV, which will not be the first time this year I have had a Takealot parcel vanish. In any case, they promised to get back to me today still so hoping to hear back from them. I am a bit hesitant to hand the broken TV over without receiving a replacement one, but hopefully by some miracle it reappears on their system and gets delivered today (although my hopes aren't high for this outcome)

Delivery has been rescheduled for today.

Let's see if they pitch this time.

So the second TV also arrived broken. The bezel even has a crack in it. It looks like a heavy box was stored on top of the TV and left a deep crease in the box in line with the crack.

Total damage thus far: 2x R13'999 TV's plus courier fees:ROFL:

EDIT: This time I took a video as I unboxed it, so if they hassle me I have proof that it was not damaged by me.
