first- I'm no techie.
I'm getting a media streamer (Droidtv) and needed a HDD to go with it.
someone told me to consider a NAS Drive since I don't need the HDD to be portable.
Is this a cheaper and better option? Is it difficult for me ot setup considering I don't know much about networking?
Who are the best suppliers of NAS Drives?
Thanks in advance

So I can buy this plus a internall HDD and use as a NAS drive?

Nope, NAS stands for network attached storage.

Cheapest option would just be a 2.5" or 3.5" external usb drive connected to the droid TV.

Alternatively a NAS, i.e an enclosure for a harddrive that requires power and has an ethernet port can be bought for around R2000 including a 2TB or so drive.

Only go the NAS route if you need to access the content from two different places which is not in your case.

Many WiFi/3G routers have USB connector for storage with SAMBA, ftp support at least. There is no need for file sharing on PC nor NAS anymore. Still USB 2.0 and Fast Ethernet. Chose NAS or PC sharing you want Gigabit Ethernet speed.

USB 2.0... Chose NAS if you want Gigabit Ethernet speed, routers usually offer 100Mbps.
+1 I have a TP-Link, it was easy to set up.

Oh.. I didn't know routers had USB ports that could connect hard drives...duh

From USB stick to hard drive. But remember, it is better to use hard drive with external power supply. 2.5" USB powered drives take to much power.

you mean if it's 2.5" the router may not be powerful enough to power it?

Then look at the router power supply too. 10W PSU is a minimum and perhaps not sufficient.

Another option is to use a WiFi Hdd.

A router would be better, you can't really stream HD over WiFi nicely unless in ideal conditions & I think a router with a external hdd would work on cheaper
