what do you actually have to study to become a spaceman? I remember when I was little, I always wanted to be one, but no one could tell me what you need to study so I have always been rather curious what the requirements are and why like how do you apply it to space?

We have one big problem in sa,

That that we in sa, most require you to be a citizen of the us first.

Space travel will come to the Everyman, just probably not in our lifetimes

Busy reading that now. Very interesting.

Basically if you want to be an astronaut it takes decades of dedication to, if you are lucky, go to space twice or if you are really, really lucky a third time.

From the book it sounds like back in the day the only path to becoming an astronaut was to become a seasoned test pilot and then 5-10 would get selected from hundreds of applicants. From then on its just non-stop intense training. Life of an astronaut seems to be continual training, many of them go on to get PhDs. Its just constant relentless training and simulation.

I think these days there are other ways to becoming one, being a scientist is obviously one of the ways but ever since the shuttle was ended they preferred those who could do a multitude of disciplines rather than specialists.
