Zanu-PF print job done 'by mistake'

The Paarl Media Group has announced it will make a donation of R300 000 towards relief efforts in Zimbabwe after it inadvertently concluded a print contract for the ruling Zanu-PF party.
It is understood that the work in question was a pamphlet outlining Zanu-PF's contribution to Zimbabwe.
Hein Brand, group managing director of Media24, which owns Paarl Web, said in a statement on Wednesday that "one of our regular South African clients placed work with Paarl Web Gauteng".
He said the South African client "placed the order for the work, provided the material, took delivery of the printed output and paid for the work. At no stage was Paarl Web Gauteng aware the work was done on behalf of Zanu-PF".
"I am told that the management of Paarl Media regrets not having had the opportunity to review the printing of this material through full disclosure by the client."
He said Media24 management would have advised against accepting this work if they had known about it before.
The matter surfaced when the company's management received a petition.
"Essentially staff was under the impression that there was a conscious management decision to do the printing and hence they felt there was an error in judgment."
Brand said there was no such "discreet" decision.
"The management of Paarl Web Gauteng assures me that neither the Zimbabwean Government nor Zanu-PF are clients, nor has Paarl Media accepted payment from them."
Brand said the company estimated that the profit on the R2,6-million contract was R300 000, which would be donated "to relief efforts in Zimbabwe
