any idea what cooler I can put on this monster? Im doing some overclocking and this stock heatsink is a total piece of **** :D

I even placed a 80mm fan on it, and its still too toasty... bloody aluminium!!

suggestions?

Cooler Master Hyper TX2 delivers good bang for the buck from most reports.

Edit: Are you talking about the cpu?

northbridge chipset people... :p

CPU I got a monster on there... no problem!

maybe one of these will fit!?

Thermalright HR-05 , chipset heatsink - copper base + 2 copper heatpipes + aluminum fin ; 78x30x105mm , weight 145g - support optional 80mm fan

Thermalright HR-05-ifx , chipset heatsink - copper base + 2 copper heatpipes + aluminum fin ; 85x30x105mm , weight 110g - support optional 80mm fan

Thermalright HR-05-Sli , chipset heatsink - copper base + 2 copper heatpipes + aluminum fin ; 78x62x105mm , weight 124g - support optional 80mm fan

Wow, even the 80mm fan didn't help? Did you re-seat the sink nicely with some good thermal paste?

Can you get hold of a Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II?

no it did help, but its the heatsink that is the problem here... I wanna replace it with something decent, especially now that Im overclocking, and tweaking the NB voltage up... :D

Well I'd say if the Hr-05 doesn't fit, then attach a Stealth 60mm fan (good cfm to noise ratio, really quiet) to that Spirit II baby..

Im sorry... I dont think that I would put that thing in my case purely based on its bad looks!! looks ***!!

:D:D:D

edit : I cant source it anyway...

Ye try re-seat it with some arctic silver. Most normal chipset coolers will NOT work due to the strange dimensions of the mounting holes, and apparently there are TWO chips under there which you have to cool. Not sure what the other chip is but unfortunately finding a cooler is gonna be difficult.

I hate to break the news to you bud but that board is a terrible OCer. I had one for 2 days and got rid of it.

obviously dont know what you are doing then...

my E8200 was just happy at 3.6ghz... and so is my Q9550 at 3.7ghz (soon to be 4ghz)

Yeah, that's fine but try going over 4GHZ. I couldn't get my E8600 more than 4.2. I bought an XFX 790 and went straight to 4.5 then 4.8. Touched 5GHZ as well.

:D

edit : kind reminds me of that celeron "i once had" that I got up to 6ghz... LMAO

no ways a OC noob is gonna get his E8600 to 5ghz

Who's your noob poephol;)?

I have a screenie of it at 4.95 at home on my PC that's currently in pieces due to an upgrade

Sounds more like you're the noob dude, the E8600 I had was good for more than 5GHZ quite easily. It used to belong to Vivi who was ranked 4 on HWBot.

At 4.95? As soon as my i7 arrives and I get things put back together I'll post it... NOOB

You also get better batches than others and mine was from one of the better batches.

Not sure if you've seen but Vivi has an E8600 that does 6.666GHZ on LN2.
