Neato D robot vacuum is really cool

Got the BV-75 model. I see Takealot sells them but I got mine from AimToFind.com and used FedEx shipping.
Use coupon "neat" for an extra $75 off if you're going that route.

When I got mine their models started at 70. 75 was the middle of the range one and 80 was not more powerful. They all have the same motors and software, brushes were slightly different but the difference in performance was questionable. I have no idea what the advantage of 85 over 75 is now, only improvement may be the ability to work with pet hair.

They are quite noisy but not as noisy as a hand held vacuum although almost as much. Still they're very powerful in terms of suction power. They do tend to get stuck in carpets sometimes and if you have high cabling laying around. They maneuver stairs well and don't fall off. :)

Main diff between them and Samsung / iRobot is that they clean systematically. The others do random cleans and may do the same spot many times and skip another spot, while the Neato first maps a room and then does a systematic sweep not missing a spot.

So is this thing meant to be on 24/7 in the background?

Or do you just turn it on when you'd normally vacuum the house?

I liked the idea of those ones that just quietly do their thing in the background with minimal intervention from the user.
 
Time to get one. I suppose for a tiled floor I would still have to mop i.e. it only vacuums?

I guess you still have to empty out the vacuum cleaner. They look small in the images, so how much can they hold ?

You can program it for days of the week. The menu has a day of week and time setting. It has its own charge station to which it returns after cleaning to recharge. If it needs to clean more and has run out of juice it will return, recharge and continue where it left off. It cleans very well - suction power is very good - not as good as a proper hand held 1600-2000w cleaner but I'd say adequate for daily or 2-3 /week use. Major vacuuming can be done 2-4 times per month depending on your preferences.

It also has a spot cleaning function where it will clean a given spot with a radius around it. It's one button touch, otherwise if you turn it on in the middle of a room, it will map the room, clean it and then proceed to the next room and so on, until it runs out of power and will return to where it started. If it started at the charge station it will recharge automatically. There are boundary markers if you don't want it to clean somewhere, mine came with a metal tape, I haven't used that though.

You need to mop as well. This is only a vacuum cleaner. Koreans have a model which washes the floor as well so you could get one of each.

There is a filter which can be cleaned but after some time needs to be replaced too. The container should be emptied after each cleaning, I'd say. But it's a quick affair.

Oh you said "else".... have no idea. Takealot just do fullfilment. Someone else brings them in.

BTW there is a modified Neato called the Vorwerk 100 and now the 200.

It's got a modified brush and it uses a lithium ion battery over the regular NiMh batteries Neato's use.

Apparently it's better, but much more expensive.


Vorwerk do have an agent in SA.

Yeah Neato say there is no distributor in SA.

Importing is the way.

I'm not sure how much the new " SpinFlow Technology" helps out, but if the reviews don't make it really significant one can order from Aimtofind. Aimtofind should have the newest models up there too, soon enough, with this "technology", although it may just turn out to be a gimmick. All their models seem to use the same motor, batteries, and hardware, just the brushes differ.
