Hi all

I have been the unfortunate victim of someone cloning my card and withdrawing more than R3000 out of my account. This while I am in Gauteng and the transaction happened in Polokwane!

I went to Nedbank to report it and they said that there is only one card linked to my account??????

Opened a case and they said it would take 6 - 8 weeks for an investigation and then a refund????????

I was inside ABSA at the time of the withdrawl, on the cctv cameras, standing there and still it takes 2 months??????

Found out that Nedbank has a major problem with card cloning and that there are thousands like me!!!!!

Thank you Nedbank for being such a safe place to bank ( fake compliment btw)

Any other victims of such BS here?

I don't think it's just nedbank. I was inside standard bank the other day, and heard someone complaining of the same issue.
All it takes to clone your card is a quick swipe. How many times has your card been out of your sight, even for a few seconds?

Hi. Thanks for the "good news"
All that I cant understand is how can it take so long? I mean i have proved that i was inside a bank in pretoria at the time and the bank confirmed that there is only one card issued by them???

Wait and see in this beautifull land of ours!

Thank you for making me aware, I will make sure I will not give my card to anyone where I can't see it

Have you proved that your Nedbank card was with you?

Hi, Yes I have. I used the card about 2 minutes before the incident.

Thats sucky. Did they use your pin? Or did they do it from a cashier at checkers or whatever..?

Rule of thumb is that its your responsibility to protect your pin, so if your pin is compromised you lose. I hope they sort it out for you tho.

If your pin was used with a clone card to draw at an ATM, I seriously doubt you will be refunded. Let us know the outcome, interesting.

I got my credit card cloned at a toll gate, luckily i was close to my limit as they tried to buy over R40,000 worth of stuff... all they got was R80 Mcdonalds.

R80 on McDonalds! Don't worry the heart attack will get them.

Hi I agree with the McD's lmao. Hope those fries clogged up the pipes.
I just came from the bank now and will keep you guys posted
Thanks again

Card cloning is a big business but funny enough dont hear much people complaining about FNB, fraud is getting out of hand and instead of banks trying to help customers or curb it they actually pushing us around.......and blaming us for not doing something.........getting your money back from NEdbank will not be ea sy best thing to do is switch to FNB they have realistic turnaround times for things like this happening........or better yet threathen them with the media...............they will do everything in their power to have this resolved.

haha, this won't happen to me!

Well... it just did. Got an SMS from standard bank at 01h20 to contact their fraud department.
Checked my bank statement, and see there were two withdrawals from my account at 01h19 and 01h20 this morning. Their systems are obviously monitoring for odd transactions.

Anyway, I phoned the fraud line, and the dude stopped my debit card... and he mentioned something about my CC as well... so I checked the statement, and see that there are 3x transactions going back to the 19th for cash withdrawals from the same ATM that ripped off my debit card.

This leads me to wonder the following: How the ef did they clone BOTH my cards? I have NEVER used both my cards at the same place at the same time. I have used my cards at the same place at different times, yes... and off the top of my head, I immediately think of GAUTRAIN. This is the only place I can think of that I have used both my cards, but never both on the same day (that I can recall). Also considering that withdrawals were made from my CC on the same day that I recharged my GAUTRAIN card. UPDATE: Way too early in the morning to post, and not enough time to think about things. I very much doubt my CC was cloned, it was my debit card. My accounts are linked. It was just coincidental that I used my CC at gautrain on the same day that withdrawals were made on my CC account.

Fortunately it shouldn't be too hard to track, as my debit card was issued very recently.

Well that's not lekka dude. This seems to be happening more frequently now, what must we do stop using our cards and use cash? The banks need to tighten up maybe make use of chip cards only.

My CC is a chip card. It means nothing.

And for what it's worth, it was the very first time I have used my CC to recharge my gautrain card. I don't know if it's a coincidence though.

Hi guys. i dont tnow how long but not a word from Nedbanks side. if I dont go in and request updates...........nothing. I will however keep u posted. Good luck

Thinking about it (all night, yawn), only one of my cards needs to have been cloned. I suspect my debit card was cloned, not my CC.

What I dont understand is that the bank is supposed to be the safe place to keep our money. We have to present bloodscans, id books, family registries and what not to just get an account and then someone just "clones" a card and takes money?? Why dont they beef up security to prevent this, it cant be that hard?
