My current POS is starting to kick the bucket slowly...the PSU is loud, the CPU fan whines and I haven't upgraded for like 5 years now so I think it's time.

Anyway, I'm only looking to replace the box, no peripherals like monitors, keyboard etc. Also, I game on my 360 so onbard graphics is fine, no need for a graphics card.

I need a new:
  1. case
  2. motherboard
  3. CPU
  4. Quiet PSU
  5. 4GB (maybe 8) RAM

With a budget of R5000...what would you recommend? Link me..

What are you looking for, Quad core, dual core ? You could build a very nice AMD system with that money without a graphics card...

The fastest system possible for R5k is what I'm looking for.

Ideally quad-core...I need recommendations here.

This one is from ikonicIT, a little bit over R5000 though, (however the best processor on the market from AMD of course) and 6GB of Ram, This should run like a dream...

Firstly, for RAM, what's the difference between DDR2 and DDR3?

Second, does the PSU have modular cabling r some type of cable management?

Third, is the case purrty?

Fourth, between Asus and MSI, which is the better motherboard brand?

Nope, Windows 7 RC1 will serve me well until I decide to get the RTM and ultimately buy Windows 7 when it's released.

google it because it will depend on YOUR tastes ;)

Asus I reckon

I think you would be paying quite a bit more for DDR3 Ram...

So nobody thinks I should rather go with an intel system?

My previous 2 machines were AMD but recently I hear everyone talking about i7s..

i7's are way too expensive. I have a Phenom 9950, great processor for the price! i7 motherboards are also quite pricey.

Not with that budget unfortunately.

I have an AMD system and love it :)
I also have the Asus M2N68-VM and must say it is a great board :)
Nice a sturdy with nice CPU support for future upgrades!!
