as the title states, i want to buy a printer for home use. my current canon mp160 does not do it for me anymore. what im looking for:

multifunction (including fax)
ink should not be expensive (i am looking at a multi ink system)
should be able to identify/use generic ink (my mp160 refuses to identify generic ink)
maybe wireless printing
budget is <1200

is this possible??

well I stock the brother ones over here quite nice little thing has a paper tray and uses a multi ink system. goes for R1199 model is MFC-255CW. this printer supports wireless printing aswell.

R99 for the 3 Colours
R159 for the Black

its per colour so its R99 each. Well I can organise something for you.

Well whatever you decide on, DON'T get a Samsung multifunction laser. Sold one of these to a client of mine and it has endless issues.

it's not a good idea to use reman'ed cartridges on brother printers. It's possible but be prepared to have a service done fairly fequestly. From easy of obtaining reman cartridges rather look at HP or Samsung.

are those single colour cartridges easy to refill or would it be recommended to buy from a print shop? i really like the lexmark although i have heard some negative stories about it. it seems this is the first innovative printer they made with the new ink system and all.

Brother is one of the best around. Far superior to any Lexmark. It will be more expensive, but the build and print quality is worth it.

Strange, coz we've just sold 3 SAMSUNG SCX4623F printers over the last few months to a single client, and they're pretty happy with it. No problems yet. Hopefully it stays that way.

Do not buy a lexmark if you're planning on refilling or want to use remanufactured cartridges.

canon? the brother printer stated above is pretty good but does not use the single ink system, pitty

the printer will be used for printing my assignments mostly and some colour prints here and there, no photos at all so im less bothered by quality, as long as it takes reman cartridges

The one I am referring to is a Samsung Multifunction Fax-Scan-Copy-Print colour laser. (The same model you are referring to)

First problems: Smoke coming out of machine and front USB not working. - Sent in for repair.
Second problem: Not quite sure, but it was replaced and haven't had any hassles from the customer since.

just remember if you use generics in any printer you void your warranty.

@ stroebs you should try getting hold of samsung direct when you having issues like this

I always tend to use/sell HP ink, never generics. I also find that HP ink lasts longer

Thanks for that.
I think the original problem was that it would have been replaced the first time it broke down, if the person who I sold it to gave it back to me instead of getting it repaired by an unknown person.
